Yesterday started out as a typical Saturday.  We had a few things that needed to be done, but only after I spent an hour or so on the porch with coffee and my "emerging porch puppy" (Suzy).  Suzy is getting much better at just sitting on the porch with me listening to the early morning sounds… MORE

Jon and I head out to the Eastern Shore every summer, specifically Chincoteague Island, Virginia.  We've been going there since 1981 and have not missed many years, in fact some years we make it there twice - once in the summer and once in the winter.  Our kids went there almost every year of… MORE

Tonight I find myself in a place I haven't been very much lately.  Home.  Home sweet home.  Jon is out of town, nothing pressing is happening at Mi Rancho, the Mexican Restaurant, and Mother Ann is home alone.  As home alone as one can get with a lab, 2 cats, a kitten, 2 birds, and an… MORE

Friday night we finally got to go out with our best friends and spend some time with them in a relaxing, fun setting.  Akron has this great outdoor venue for free concerts - Lock 3.  Friday there were a couple tribute bands playing - One was a Billy Joel and one was an Elton John; both very… MORE

Wow!  That sums up the turn my life has suddenly taken.  Jon and I are on a new life-changing adventure.  We're on a path we NEVER dreamed we'd be on.  It's only just beginning and fingers crossed everyone - we hope it's going to be a long, successful, fun adventure!  Here's the scoop:  We… MORE

It's true - I've gone an entire week without cooking a single meal!!  I didn't really even realize this until I was sitting with my morning coffee deciding what I was going to do with this day; this day where nothing is begging for my attention.  Last Sunday afternoon we had our Mexican… MORE

My mom took off early in the week with my little sister and niece and headed to Illinois for a dog show.  Dad stayed home to look after their dog, a lab. The dog show is the Nationals for Spinone Italianos; the breed of dog my sisters have. Before she left, though, she did fill the freezer… MORE

Saturday was a cold, wet, rainy day here in NE Ohio.  I have to say that this year we really haven't had many of these days - in fact the sun has been shining more this year than normal, so I can't complain.  Our original plans had to change due to the weather.  Jon is building a tiki-bar for… MORE

Last week was Easter and I host Easter Dinner at my house.  The star of the dinner table is always a glazed, spiral sliced ham.  Scalloped potatoes made with the help of hubby also always grace the table.  This was the first holiday celebrated with my son, Steve, not present.  For those who… MORE

When I was a kid my mom worked at a bakery.  Best job a kid's mom could ever have; day-old doughnuts and broken cookies followed Mom home quite often.  Around Easter time she would bring home Hot Cross Buns.  I remember eating them, but I don't remember if I loved them or not.  Anyways - the… MORE

About Me
I've been married for 32 years, and live in Ohio. We have a daughter who is married and lives nearby. Our son graduated from college and moved to South Dakota. He has his own place but still goes to visit my sister and brother-in-law and have dinner with them occasionally. We have a black lab that gets to go duck hunting with dad, 2 cats, 2 cockatiels. We own a Mexican restaurant and are learning alot about the food industry. I love to eat, go camping, read, spend time with family and friends, watch movies, and drink wine; not necessarily in that order.
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake - anything chocolate is fine with me. Seafood, chicken dishes and slow-cooker fare.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My husband and I enjoy cooking together with wine. We pop open a bottle of wine and get cooking. :-)
My cooking triumphs
Whenever I can put together a meal that gets many compliments and leaves the diners satisfied is a triumph in my book! I love to cook meals for family and friends.
My cooking tragedies
When I was first married we had my grandparent's-in-law over for a pot roast dinner. The meat came out great, but the potatoes and carrots were still half raw. My husband's grandfather went to cut his fork into a carrot and it flew off his plate. He looked at me, winked, and said he loved his carrots that way!
