Recent college grad. Lived for a year in Shanghai, China. Love pretty much every cuisine I encounter. I'm a proud low carb and paleo cook.
My favorite things to cook
Chinese stir-fries, breakfast foods, anything with caramelized onions
My favorite family cooking traditions
Although we are all of European ancestry ourselves, my family's favorite dish is Philippines-style Chicken Adobo. We had a Philippina nanny who taught my mom the recipe. She passed away years ago, but it's still our favorite family dish. My mom makes the greatest Christmas cookies of all time.
My cooking triumphs
I've started cooking without measuring cups and spoons. In China, people really don't use them, so they're hard to find. While I was living there, I found that using my senses instead of measuring tools makes me a better cook.
My cooking tragedies
I made rice pudding once with the new sugar I had just bought at the nearby Chinese chaoshi (supermarket). Turns out I had accidentally purchased MSG! Needless to say, I was forced to abandon the too-savory pudding.
