About this Cook
My favorite things to cook
I like to try to cook new foods for my family. If we like it then i add it to our menu. Our family seems to get bored of the same old stuff over and over again.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I love to make thanksgiving dinner. I used to help my dad as a kid, now its just up to me. Althoug now that i am a mom my kids "help" me too. I also love to let my kids help out in the kitchen. I let them choose what to make, they measure, and taste all the ingredients from salt to vanilla to baking soda, they mix and blend and fold. My four year old is excited to get bigger and bigger so she can take the cookies out of the oven all by herself. When that day comes i still think that licking to bowl will be her favorit though. (Its still mine afterall.)
My cooking triumphs
Uh no doubt getting dinner on the table as my husband walks thru the door without setting the house on fire, undercooking it, burning the meal or poising my family somehow all the while, changing diapers, wiping a few butts and noses, putting away the same toy 7 times before giving up, stopping to breast feed and breaking up a few fights and defusing tantrums. WOW i am awesome! Trust me this doesn't happen every night, but it has. (uh does take out count though!?) ;)
My cooking tragedies
So when my husband and I first met i made him my favorit cake that my grandma taught me how to make. I have made it so often that i do not need to look at the recpie. So when ij went to his parents house he raved about what a great baker i am, and how amazing this cake was. His mom asked me to make it and she would write it down so she could make it too. My mother in law does not bake so we had to go buy a cake pan while i was at the store i picked up everything else that we would need. When we got home i quickly tried to throw wverything together while my husband translated. (He does not know english and i do not speek spanish) after i put the pineapple in the pan i thought that it looked a little off, but i could not put my finger on it i put the batter in the pan anyway then baked it, when the cake was finally done and we flipped it over i still thought that it looked odd, then it hit me. I forgot to put the brown sugar in! We all know that makes the cake!I blame my husband!:)

Oven Roasted Teriyaki Chicken
This was great. I made the sauce the night before then marinated chicken and had my husband grill it. I also made a mistake and m is measured the vinegar, it was super easy to fix though. Both kids liked the chicken as well, husband requested that i make again. Only change i made was to use reg brown sugar not splenda. Will make again.

Grandma's Blueberry Pie
this was a good pie it was just a little to sweet, the berries i had were very sweet though, next time i will taste then decide how much sugar. We ate it after it had cooled slightly, but i have to say it was way better the next day, it held up when cut (the next day not so much from the over as to be expected)i will make this again but with less sugar
