I've touched on this topic in the past, but I want to touch on it again... how I've begun to actually enjoy vegetables. I have to say, I am pretty proud of myself. A year and a half ago my diet  (and when I say diet, I don't mean DIET, I mean what I ate on a daily basis, I don't believe in… MORE

About this Cook
I'm 25 years old, living at home with my parents and my sister who recently graduated from college. I have an amazing boyfriend who LOVES FOOD. I'm out of work right now, since the job market is rough right now I have decided that I will use this time to learn how to cook. My parents, sister, and sometimes my boyfriend are my guinea pigs for new recipes; they (usually) enjoy them and luckily we haven't had to throw any out and order pizza lol. I'm always looking for simple, but delicious dishes that I will still have time to make once I go back to work.
My favorite things to cook
I'm a very picky eater, so really anything that I actually end up liking!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom is an excellent baker so most of them revolve around that (raisin bread for Thanksgiving/Christmas is one of my faves).
My cooking triumphs
Anything that everyone in my house enjoys (we all have very different tastes).
My cooking tragedies
In high school, my sister and I decided to cook dinner for ourselves one weekend when my parents weng away; we tried to make mashed potatoes. After we baked them (in the microwave probably, and probably not for long enough) we chopped them up and put them in a bowl with some milk and butter. We tried to mash them with the hand mixer, but they were so hard that they didn't mash very well. We ended up with what I would describe as a potato-soup like liquid with hard chunks of potatoes.

Sweet Potato and Carrot Soup with Cardamom
Great soup! I left out the cardamom because I didn't have it. I also used another cup of chicken broth and I'm glad I did - it was nice a thick, but would have been too thick without the extra broth.

Citrus Dressing
Very good! I cut the sugar in half and it was still sweet enough. I did as another suggested and used some mayo instead of the egg and some of the oil. Thanks for the recipe!
