Caraway Rye Bread (for the bread machine)

Reviewed: Jul. 5, 2013
one of the best bread machine recipes, I've come across in a long time. I've never used caraway seeds and so I was a bit cautious. I of course made this recipe in the middle of the night to occupy my time. And when I woke up, wah-la it was done and cooled. The loaf was super airy, sturdy yet soft and nearly store bakery quality. Using an electric bread knife to cut even slices, turned out just beautifully. I was rather impressed. I was worried about the flavorful but it was very nice as well. I will try this recipe with other seeds or herbs and without as well. Very good, very good...a wonderful keeper for sure!!!

Wedding Gift Spaghetti Sauce

Reviewed: Jul. 5, 2013
wow, this is delish. I saw Allison's photos and when I told hubby I was making this. He asked me to make it chunkier with meat because that's how he likes it. So I added about 3/4th of a pound more hamburger. It was thick and hearty just like my hubby likes it. I will make again. The aromatics in the house smelled amazing and wouldn't change a thing other then keeping the amount of meat in it, that I did. Miss you Dog Fish ;-) and thank you for sharing your recipe here for others to try. I will keep this one close to my heart and always in my recipe box!

Skewered Cantaloupe

Reviewed: Jun. 28, 2013
This was an interesting way to serve cantaloupe. My girls were the 1st to hit this and were the last ones to walk away from it...must eat them warm to enjoy the full affect. The honey butter sauce was really great, I used things from local...local blackberry honey from a farm in town and apple mint I am growing in my garden. It was lip smacking delish! I could totally use the sauce on other fruit whether they are grill, fried or fresh. It really is something that makes things shine.

Rosemary Ranch Chicken Kabobs

Reviewed: Jun. 28, 2013
The recipe was fabulous....I used my indoor grill and this recipe was on the flavor train! Soo so good! My family totally enjoyed the flavor that this recipe had. The way I cubed my 5 huge chicken breasts, I made 18 skewers and they were completely gone at the end of the meal. Everyone said I out did myself and I didn't and won't change a thing with the recipe, at all. TY so much.

Grilled Squash and Zucchini

Reviewed: Jun. 27, 2013
What a momma does to do for her squash loving kiddo ;-) Recipe was easy to follow, I didn't try myself because of allergies, so I'm basing this off the 4 girls that would eat it. I did doubled the squash and zucchini and left everything else the same because I saw the amount of cayenne. While the older 2 girls said "love it love it" with the spice, the 2 younger girls said HOT!! and grabbed for drinks. Will make again for them but will totally cut the cayenne down by half.

Milk Bread

Reviewed: Jun. 24, 2013
The recipe was really super easy. Made it as is. But ended up making a 2nd batch because the 1st batch was gone with in 10 minutes after I removed from the bread maker. It was so delish. It really was impressive. I'll be making again and again. The 1st time. I didn't pay attention to the recipe's loaf size. That truly is important when setting your machine. I put on the light white bread setting on the 2nd batch and it came out darn near perfect! Will have to make another batch in the next few days. TY is was fabulous!

Southern Ham and Brown Beans

Reviewed: Jun. 24, 2013
My family enjoyed this. I had a package of chunked ham shank meat and I used it in place of the ham hock. I also doubled the batch but noticed...to much liquids, which diluted the overall spices, so I ended up boiling longer then expected to decrease the amount of water I added and had to had increase the spices by a 3rd more to compensate. However, had I stuck to a single batch...no compromising with the recipe as is. It filled our bellies and all was happy. SO thank you.

Pap Walters' Cornbread

Reviewed: Jun. 24, 2013
This was so so for my family. The outside darkened more then I cared for and the cottage cheese made it super moist, that the outside was done a lot quicker then the inside but sorry to say, it's not something I'd make again, just because of my family's preferences. It just didn't taste the way we all expected.

My kids really enjoyed this healthy treat. Using a healthy granola with acai berries in it also helps. Will make again ;-)

Arabian Rose Water Pudding (Muhalbiyah)

Reviewed: May 4, 2013
easy recipe, but however, I couldn't get past the smell of rose petals in my digestion. Something about eating what I normally smell on potpourri and perfumes, wasn't something I could handle after I made it. I really am trying to be subjective here. While I love the fragrance of roses...this totally took me to a new level when trying to down it in this recipe. Had I been accustom to eating this growing up, I would probably have enjoy it. But putting it in my mouth and swallowing it, was very off-putting when I did. I couldn't get past the one spoonful. But you don't know these things until you try them. And now I'm experienced to know, I won't be making again. My apologies. This recipe will probably suit others that are accustom to eating and drinking rose water, just won't be making it again in my household.

Maple Kale Crisps

Reviewed: May 4, 2013
oh man...didn't like it, couldn't eat it. Everyone in the house didn't care for it at all. 1st time I've ever made this preparation, so I can honestly say, won't again. Sorry to those that do like kale chips. It wasn't pleasing to anyone's taste buds. Sorry

Dr. D's Killer Salsa

Reviewed: May 4, 2013
While super easy to make, the down fall in this recipe is the acidic of too much lemon juice and slightly off-putting. It's the 1st thing you taste, above the other ingredients in the recipe. It did however have the back heat of the cayenne and the light lingering flavor of cilantro. I would recommend only using 2 teaspoons of lemon juice, not 2 tablespoons and add an additional avocado or add a diced roma tomato for extra color because the recipe color is rather muted from the canned tomato sauce.

Laura's Quick Slow Cooker Turkey Chili

Reviewed: May 1, 2013
I honestly wasn't a fan, while my husband liked it, it was slightly to hot for my kids. And we like spicy but it was enough the kids, had the burns in their throats, they couldn't get past. For me, it had a weird after taste, that I just didn't care for. I think it was the allspice and the mix of tomato soup.

Cinnamon Yogurt Dip

Reviewed: Apr. 30, 2013
If you follow this recipe with the amount of cinnamon, you totally have added way to much, as I found out. There is soo much cinnamon in such a small batch of dip, that we found our selves saying the dip was drying our palates. I made it twice and the 2nd batch at half the required amount of cinnamon...way way much better. And enjoyable.

Creamy Banana Blast

Reviewed: Apr. 30, 2013
While simple and easy...it wasn't our favorite, it was okay. Not sweet and not seasoned enough with nutmeg. My daughter and I added sugar and nutmeg until she was satisfied. But we both agreed, it still had the after taste of evaporated milk slightly above the banana taste.

Leftover Special Casserole

This recipe was just fine, nothing special. However it did make use of some leftover ham from the holidays. It probably could be tweaked a little more. But not bad.

Skillet Mac and Cheese & Kielbasa

Reviewed: Apr. 5, 2013
The recipe was okay...However, man the sausage was great. My store only had the andouille sausage. SO that's what I had to use. As I followed as best to a T as possible, the bread crumb stage, needed a little bit of butter to make the bread crumbs golden, as my sausage slices didn't produce enough. The next steps were fine, but when I added my cheese at the very end...it was soo thick and stringy that I really really needed to have some butter or more liquids to thin it. However as it stands my family totally enjoyed it to death. Oh I could have easily used another package of sausage or taken the time to slice each slice in half, to have more meat through out. Other then that, I was asked to make it again.

Amber's Super Stuffing

Reviewed: Apr. 3, 2013
I have to say, this was okay as a whole on the recipe side. The recipe is lacking baking directions. As most people will use common sense, there are beginning cooks to even expert cooks that can see the directions are lacking completely from start to finish. A beginner might pass the recipe up due to the fact of not knowing baking temp & time. I however cooked this recipe at 350 for about 20-25 minutes. The recipe should also state a rough amount of extra chicken broth if needed, which I needed around a cup and a half cup to add to the whole batch. I was afraid of over saturating the dish as well not getting it moist enough. I also bought the wrong wild rice mix, it just so happened to be a Brown Rice Melody mix from Trader's Joe, but used it as that's what I bought. But at the end of the recipe, my son really liked it despite it having mushrooms, while everyone else thought it was okay.

Green Pea Salad

Reviewed: Apr. 1, 2013
I actually loved this combination. However, I will say, that I modified, only because of what I had. One, my Romas were rather large, so 3 equaled 6 easily. And when I thought I had sweet pickles on hand...I didn't and had no choice but to grab for the relish, I measured out 2 TBSPs of Sweet Pickle Relish to start with and added one more after tasting it. The lightness of this dish was really well balanced and wasn't at all heavy weighted with the cheese in the "normal" Pea Salads. I will totally make again because I was double and triple dipping my spoon in and munching while making Easter dinner. Thanks...I truely enjoyed this.
