Pesto Cream Sauce

Reviewed: May 10, 2014
Wow! This blew me out of the water! I didn't use shrimp or tomatoes, but I bet it would taste fantastic with them! I couldn't find plain romano cheese anywhere, so I had a three-cheese blend with some in it instead, but next time I'm hunting some down to see if it changes the taste. But all I can say is YUM! I'm definitely making this again. I did notice, however, that I had much more sauce than I did noodles. I ended up having to make more pasta to use the remaining sauce. However, this isn't enough to make me drop a star, just a note for next time!

Really Creamy Fettuccine Alfredo

Reviewed: Feb. 25, 2014
The taste of cream cheese was quite overwhelming. It was not the flavour I was expecting. However, it is one I will probably play with until I find a nice balance of flavour. I had to add more milk at the end of cooking, as it was too thick to mix with the pasta. I also omitted the nutmeg, in part because I did not have any on hand and because it didn't seem appealing with garlic in the recipe.

Basic Crepes

Reviewed: Apr. 14, 2013
This recipe hit the spot! Simple to prepare and cook, and very delicious! This will definitely make a repeat appearance in my kitchen, and quite frequently I imagine, too! Good for breakfast or dinner, depending on what you stuff 'er with!

Apple Crisp III

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2012
I cannot even begin to describe how good this was! My evening social group has some apple trees out behind the shed that were getting many ripe apples on it, so I used this recipe to make a dessert for one of our social nights. I'm passing along twenty "two thumbs up" for this recipe, along with my own! I also have the memorable comment "It smells like a candle!" to toss in too. I found that, however, the topping didn't seem to crumble, but instead turned doughy. I flattened it and layered it as a crust, and the taste was still good! The apples I used were juicy enough that adding water to the pan didn't seem necessary. I skipped it the second time I made it.

Chocolate French Toast

Reviewed: Sep. 29, 2012
Oh wow. I have to give this a 5 star review for one simple fact: I *hate* French Toast. However, I loved these to pieces! I didn't have any fruit-flavoured syrup, so I improvised by making a quick syrup out of cherry pie filling on the stove. I know that these will be making a regular appearance on my breakfast menu! I also love how the ingredients are simple and commonly stocked in most kitchens. No outlandish or odd ingredients; everything is simple and straightforward for a quick, easy to make meal that anyone can love. Even a french toast-hater like me can be converted. I noticed people have said the cocoa doesn't wish to mix in. I had no problems, but I used a sifter to blend the sugar and cocoa in at the same time, eliminating the lumps in the cocoa. It *did* settle at the bottom, but mixing it between cooking times on the stove helped keep it together.

Pumpkin Spice Hot-Cocoa "Latte"

Reviewed: Sep. 15, 2012
This was absolutely delicious! Perfect for a nippy fall morning, bringing the familiar tastes of the season to the invigorating energy of coffee. Not having a means to make espresso, I just substituted that for 1/4 cup of water with 1tsp instant coffee, and I feel it turned out fine. I also tried this as a coffee-free drink, using 1/4 cup water and 3 tbsp of hot cocoa mixture. It was yummy and my family loves it! This is definitely being made again in my kitchen!

Fettuccine with Garlic Herb Butter

Reviewed: Aug. 11, 2012
I made this at my home, and it was well enjoyed! However, the herb didn't cover the pasta so well, and so I ended up adding come olive oil to the butter and herb mixture to make it easier to coat. The taste was great though, and I know I'll be making it again!

Easy Chicken Tetrazzini

Reviewed: Aug. 11, 2012
This went over so well in my house, that I am often asked when I'll be making it again. I love how budget friendly it is, which is always the biggest factor in the "what's for dinner?" decision.

Dumplings

Reviewed: Aug. 11, 2012
These were great! I used them to give variety and stretch out some cans of veggie soup that I had on my shelf, and I was glad that it worked so well. I have also used them in other canned soups, as well as homemade ones. I love to use this recipe when I just need to mix things up for a change!

Creamy Steak, Green Bean and Potato Stew

Reviewed: Aug. 11, 2012
I love how this recipe works so well in small spaces, with small budgets. While the meat can be expensive, I have found that even substituting canned beef chunks can work in a pinch. I also keep an eye out for sales on meat cuts. I have also tried different meats that are on sale (such as pork and chicken) and they've tasted alright as well. Kudos! I give five stars for flavour and small space friendliness!

Chocolate Syrup

Reviewed: Aug. 11, 2012
I have always enjoyed making my own chocolate syrup, as it's so much cheaper than buying even a generic brand! I do like to keep mine in the store bottle though, as it makes it less messy to use (and looks so much nicer in the fridge). While I was making it, I had a hard time getting it to thicken. I eventually gave up after 40 minutes and just poured it into the bottle and stuck it in the fridge, hoping for the best. It didn't get as thick as syrup normally does, though it did get thicker than the liquid it had been. I know I'll give it another shot to see if it might have been my stove being wonky again (it's been known to do that!) but the flavour was spot on, despite the runny texture. Since I use it for drinks and shakes anyways, it wasn't as much of an issue as if using it for other purposes.

Delicious Ham and Potato Soup

Reviewed: Jul. 24, 2012
This was so delicious! I had plenty of cooked ham and potatoes on hand, but little cheese; so this was a great find and most definitely a repeat in my kitchen! I might use a little less black pepper next time, since I'm sensitive to the taste. But let's put it like this: I have two little cousins who are very picky eaters, and they cleaned their bowls despite not liking onions or celery. That makes this recipe a 100% success in my home :)

Albino Pasta with Veggies

Reviewed: May 31, 2012
I really like how simple and basic this is. It allows plenty of room for additional ingredients to suit my personal tastes, while offering a solid base of flavour. I favour garlic taste, so I added some garlic salt to the olive oil as well. I dislike tomato sauces, so this is a very nice, quick, and delicious solution for my dinner when I'm running late! Great recipe!

Jam Filled Butter Cookies

Reviewed: Apr. 24, 2012
I found this recipe and tried it on a whim. I am so glad I did! Now whenever there's a gathering, people ask me to bring my jam cookies, and I find myself making them quite often! My sister-in-law loves them too, and I can often use them as a bribe-cookie for favours :) This is definitely a recipe that will always be in my cookbook. Thanks!

Fluffy Pancakes

Reviewed: Feb. 25, 2012
Wow! I made these yesterday morning and they went over so well! I love how thick and fluffy they become, meaning that I don't need to eat so many to get full (which is great for me!). I use almond milk to cook as I'm allergic to cow's milk and that didn't seem to be a problem when it came to 'souring' the milk. I know, for a fact, I'll never use the box mixes again!

Juicy Grilled Corn On The Cob

Reviewed: Jul. 25, 2011
I was looking for a grill recipe for corn on the cob we had purchased at the store, as I was having a small party and wanted to grill anything I could (never waste charcoal!). This went over WAY too well; I cooked over twelve pieces and only got to eat one myself! The kids loved it, as did the parents (haha!). I definitly use this everytime I need to grill out now; I also use it as a boil on the stove when the weather turns bad, I just start the burner while it's soaking, and they tasted good that way too!
