Since this is my first blog post I thought I would try to give you an impression of the things I've done in the kitchen...wait...not THAT!!! Moving on... Okay, since reviewing all the things I've COOKED in the kitchen might be a little time consuming and
boring, maybe I'll try a more…
I'm 34 years old and have been married to a kind and loving man for 10 years. We have two precious sons, who are the joys of our lives.
My favorite things to cook
I love sweets and when I find candy or a dessert that I have not made before, I like to play around with it until I discover the recipe. I also enjoy making soups and breads.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My Dad's fudge is the best I've ever tasted (and I've tasted lots!). He makes it every year at Christmas and we deliver it to his doctor's office, his work, and other places he visits often. He also makes the best chili I've ever had and it gets better each time he makes it.
My cooking triumphs
When my husband and I were newly married, we moved to San Antonio, Tx, which is about 5 hours away from where both sets of our parents live. We were a little lonely. So, I thought a familiar taste might cheer us up. I found a recipe for chocolate chip cookies and made them using a few minor changes. My husband ate them all that same night! When his family came for a visit a few weeks later, he bragged on me and asked me to make the cookies for his family. I did, the cookies disappeared, and I recieved lots of compliments that night.
My cooking tragedies
Before he passed away, my father in law discovered I could make coconut cream pie, which was his favorite dessert. He requested it often, and I would make it. The only caveat - I could not make the meringue and repeatedly embarassed myself trying. Finally, my mother in law showed me a little trick and also an important ingredient I had not been using. Thanks to her, I was able to finally present him with an edible and delicious (according to him) coconut cream pie complete with perfect meringue.
