Last year I started doing infrequent "movie nights" with my children.  They take turns picking out movies that they would like to watch, usually a newly released movie they haven't seen, but occassionally they will pick out a classic.  I get them all bundled up in their sleeping… MORE

About this Cook
I am the mother of two totally adorable kids. My son is 9 and my daughter is 3. My son is autistic, so feeding him can be a challenge as he has a few texture issues. We live in beautiful Northern Michigan, where the summers are gorgeous, and the winters are COLD and drawn out. Cooking and baking have become a favorite hobby, especially during the long winter months. You can read more about me on my blog jessiesimperfectlife.blogspot.com
My favorite things to cook
I LOVE to bake breads, cakes and cookies.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I grew up with a mom who is known for her fabulous baking abilities, so we were always decorating cookies, making pies, or baking bread.
My cooking triumphs
I finally learned how to make a pie crust that didn't taste like cardboard, or crumble into a pile on the counter!
My cooking tragedies
An incredible desintegrating pie crust.

Creamy Chicken Rice Soup
This was delicious! I doubled the recipe, added morel mushrooms and fresh, pressed garlic to the carrots, celery and onion mixture, and sauteed them all in a combo of 2 Tbsp EVOO and 2 Tbsp butter. I added 1/4 up of white wine after the flour was mixed into the veggies, right before I poured the broth into the pot. I finished it off with 3 cups of cooked rice (remember I doubled the recipe) and 1 1/2 cups 2% milk and 1/2 cup of heavy cream. I omitted the lemon juice altogether. Very kiddo friendly:) Yummmm!

Spicy Chipotle Turkey Wraps
I am the recipe submitter...If you do not like super-spicy food, do NOT use the seeds from the chipotle, and cut the adobo sauce down to 1 tsp or less. You can aslo add tomato to boost the nutrutional value (or the taste). Enjoy:)

Chocolate Turtle Cheesecake I
This is supremely excellent! The chocolate cheesecake is silky and rich. The carmel is a perfect creamy consistency. All you could ask for in a turtle cheesecake:) The very minor changes I made after reading several reviews, were to add 2 extra tbsp of butter to the crust, and I used 2 10.5 oz. pkgs of Werther's Chewy Caramels mixed with 1/2 cup evaporated milk. Oh yeah...Make sure you push the crust up the side of your springform pan at least an inch so the caramel won't stick to the pan.
