Papa Drexler's Bavarian Pretzels

Reviewed: Sep. 12, 2009
The flavor of these was great! We used brown sugar in place of white just because my almost 3yr. old was helping and insisted. Also, I found that after doing the water bath on a few that ones that were in the water just off the stove turned out best. Next time I'll keep the water simmering the whole time. I did need to cook mine an extra 5 minutes but ovens vary. Can't wait to make these again! Thanks for the recipe.

Tacos in Pasta Shells

Reviewed: Sep. 12, 2009
These were good. Different way to make stuffed shells. I'll definitely make them again. I did use 1/2 a packet of "Ortega" taco seasoning instead of the chili powder. Thanks for the recipe!

Honeyed Ham Glaze

Reviewed: Sep. 12, 2009
This was definitely different. Not so sure about the ketchup in this though. Tatsed kinda "off" to me. My son liked it though. We tried it on a ham steak and the glaze didn't really "glaze". As it cooked the glaze became watery. Maybe it was that the ham had lots of water in it? Don't know. Thanks anyway! My son ate meat and that;s all that counts, I guess.

Zippy Shepherd's Pie

Reviewed: Sep. 1, 2009
Good recipe. I expected more flavor though in the sauce. It really was a little bland. I will make it again but adjust the seasoning. Thanks

Baked Beans, Texas Ranger

Reviewed: Aug. 4, 2009
I've made these twice now. Both times, I used vegetarian baked bean and subbed cooked, chopped bacon for the sausage. The first time we found them a little too sweet for our tastes as well as a little too spicy. The second time, I omitted the sugar (as canned beans are already sweet) and cut the chili powder in half. Perfect for us! Thanks for the recipe.

Basil Tomato Soup

I really like creamy tomato soup but this was WAY too much cream. I think it would be god wit maube 1/2 the cream. Thanks.

Make-Ahead Spinach Manicotti

Reviewed: Jul. 7, 2009
This was pretty good. i used fresh spinach, sauted and pressed to get the water out. Also, I didn't refridgerated overnight, just a few hours. I didn't add the water just sauce. Worked good. Noodles were soft as though they had been pre-cooked. One word of caution, make sure you really stuff those manicotti tightly. The noodles (at least mine) expanded when cooking so it seemed there was less filling than if you made them with pre-cooked noodles. This was probably my fault though. Next time I will REALLY pack those noodles. Thanks for a quick and easy recipe. I'll probably never fuss around with filling cooked ones. Will make again.

Krystal's Perfect Marinade for BBQ or Grilled Chicken

Reviewed: Jul. 7, 2009
Overall the flavor was good. However, next time I'll cut the sugar in half. Too sweet for us. This may be the cook eror though... Marinaded longer than the stated 2 hours.

Drunken Sailors

Reviewed: Jul. 7, 2009
The alcohol is this is way too overpowering for us. I tried one during the last hour of cooking and decided to drain them in a colander and rinse. Then I remade the sauce without the alcohol and put on high for about 45 minutes. Good sauce. Will make a again just without the alcohol or a lot less than called for. We used "lite" kielbasa and it was tender and good.

Fried Cabbage with Bacon, Onion, and Garlic

Reviewed: Jul. 7, 2009
This was good. I did drain a little of the bacon grease prior to adding the cabbage it just looked like too much grease for me. As far as the salt goes, I only added about 1/2tsp. at first (I was only using 1/2 a fairly small cabbage. AT first, before simmering for 30 minutes it tasted just right for us. Then, after the simmer, I tasted before serving and the salt had almost disappered so I added a few sprinkles more. I can see if you have a huge cabbage where you may need quite a bit. Thanks for the recipe

Easy Greek Yogurt Cucumber Sauce

Reviewed: Jun. 27, 2009
This was very good. e hd it with oven toasted pita wedges alongside Souvlaki from this site. Next time I will add an extra clove of garlic but all in all very good. Thanks for the recipe. I just polished off the rest with some Ruffles and I have to say, three days later it is so much more flavorful. Will make again.

Souvlaki

Reviewed: Jun. 27, 2009
I loved these. Marinated the meat in one bag and veggies in the other all day. Skewered right before grilling. Very good flavor. I used low sodium soy as I always do so we didn't find then too salty as others had mentioned. Also, used orange and red peppers as that is what I had on hand. Will make again. Thanks for the recipe

Antipasto Pasta Salad

Reviewed: May 27, 2009
This was good. I was skeptical about the meats in it but went ahead and added them. I did use really good specialty shop pepperoni and salami and weighed it to make sure I didn't overdo it. Used red and yellow pepppers as I didn't have any green. The dressing was good but maybe could use a little more. I made this the night before so that might be why the dressing didn't shine through very much. That might be just me though, I'm a dressing and sauce lover. Everyone loved it though. Thanks for the recipe. Will make again.

Grilled Ham Steak

Reviewed: May 27, 2009
Very good ham steak. I followed the i ngredients and their measurements to a T. I have to admit, I was tempted to sub ground cloves for cinnamon as that, as far I know is more traditional on ham. I'm so glad I didn't! This was very tasty and the flavors blended perfectly. Thanks for a quick, easy way to dress up a ham steak. As far as cooking method, It's raining like crazy here so I put the ham steak in a shallow pan with a little bit of water and cooked it 450 for about 10 minutes. Thanks for the recipe! Will definitely use a again!

Honey Roasted Red Potatoes

Reviewed: May 26, 2009
These were good. However, the amount of honey didn't even show through at all the first time I made them. Also, I needed to cook mine at a higher temp for a ittle longer to brown the potatoes. Great idea, easy, just I thought they needed a few adjustments for my tastes, little more honey, little more time and heat. Thanks for the recipe.

Homemade Shake and Bake Mixture

Reviewed: May 25, 2009
This was really good. My only complaint is that the celery salt was a bit too prominent for my taste. I forgot to add the oil before coating the chicken so I sprayed the chicken pieces with Olive Oil spray prior to cooking. That seemed to work just fine. They browned up nicely. Thanks for the recipe. Will make again.

Delicious Chicken Casserole

Reviewed: May 25, 2009
This was just not for us. We found it to be very bland. However, it was easy to prepare. Also, I agree with other reviewers that it needs more rice. Otherwise there is more sauce than chicken and rice. I love extra sauce but this was too much!

Herbed Chicken in Pastry

Reviewed: May 3, 2009
This was pretty tasty but a little dry and I used extra cheese spread (Boursin). I altered the direction by cutting the chicken breast in chunks and then mixing with the cheese spread. I will make again using the same method but will marinate the chicken first for mor flavor. Thanks for the recipe.
