World's Best Pasta Sauce!

Reviewed: Mar. 26, 2010
I have made the author's other recipe Worlds Best Lasagna recipe over and over. It really is the best. (I sub red wine for the water and sugar)So, I knew this would be a winner. I am making it with whole Italian sausages in it (to be served on rolls later) and adding meat balls to be served over pasta. Thanks for the great recipes!!!

Downeast Maine Pumpkin Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2009
I made two batches. One as written, except I used one cup of brown sugar and 2 cups of regular granulated. I left one loaf plain, added Craisins to the second and chocolate chips to the third. The second batch I substituted Splenda Brown sugar blend for one cup of sugar and regular Splenda for the rest of the sugar. To make it a bit friendlier for my diabetic husband. Everything came out terriffic. This is a keeper. Thanks for the recipe!

The Perfect Basic Burger

Reviewed: May 26, 2009
Sorry I agree with the meatloaf comments. I find the perfect basic hambuger is 80/20 ground beef, broiled steak seasoning, minimally handled/shaped and grilled over charcoal. Top with fixings of your choice on a fresh/toasted bun. Perfect and Basic yum.

Grilled Corn on the Cob

Reviewed: May 25, 2009
This was a good recipe. However, I do just a couple things different. I remove the husks before I wrap in foil. I also add a couple sprinkles of Old Bay to each ear with the butter (instead of salt). I am from Maryland and we find most things taste better with Old Bay!

World's Best Lasagna

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2009
Awesome!!! Okay, I made this awhile ago and am just getting around to reviewing it. I made as written (except I soaked the Barilla brand noodles in hot water as others have suggested)and received rave reviews! I have made the sauce most recently, in Best Ziti Ever from this site (it calles for sauce from a jar). The only modification I made to the sauce was I used red wine instead of water and some of the sugar. If you have red wine on hand use it, if not don't feel like you have to go and get it for this recipe. It is great as written! Thank you for the great recipe! Oh, REALLY nice photo Heather!

Best Ziti Ever

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2009
I am giving this 4.5 stars because I made this using the sauce from Worlds Best Lasagna (elswhere on this site) rather than pre-made jarred sauce. I also added red wine instead of water in that recipe and reduced the sugar. Additionally, I made a few minor adjutments to the recipe: I added 2T fresh italian parsley, finely shredded romano cheese, and an egg to the ricotta. And I used Ronzoni Smart Taste Penne Rigate. (It has 3 times the fiber and tastes like regular). It was a huge hit! I think (like most of us who alter a recipe) that with the alterations it is a ***** recipe. I want to try it next time with hot italian sausage. Please note: This serves way more than 4! (Unless they are huge very very hungary men). More like 8-10 with a salad and bread. I divided up the leftovers and placed them in the freezer. Thank you for the recipe!

Bacon for the Family or a Crowd

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2008
I have been cooking bacon this way for years (mom taught me) I line my jelly roll/cookie sheet with foil simply to make clean up a snap. It is not necessary. I reheat any left overs in the toaster oven.

Cranberry Apple Pie II

Reviewed: Sep. 27, 2008
I have been making this recipe for years. However, I make mine with 1 tsp of cornstarch instead of flour and omit the cinnamon and nutmeg from the pie and put it in the topping. We really prefer a crumb top on this pie. It really compliments the apple/cranberry filling. Here is my recipe for a crumb top: 1 c all purpose flour, 1/2 c packed brown sugar, 1/3 c old-fashioned oats, 3/4 tsp ground cinnamon, 1/2 c chilled unsalted butter cut into small pieces. Rub in butter with fingertips or process w/food processor until mixture resembles coarse meal.

Spicy Ham and Grilled Cheese Sandwich

Reviewed: Sep. 9, 2008
This procedure is okay. I prefer to place the ham in the skillet to heat it through first. Then build the sandwich as decribed and grill. By heating the ham first you guarantee that your ham will be nice and toasty warm along with the melted cheese and bread.

Maryland Crab Cakes II

Reviewed: May 18, 2008
I found this recipe Not so great. First use only fresh lump blue crab, not canned. And do NOT shred it. Gently check for cartlidge. Add an egg to help bind the ingredients. And how can you post a recipe pretending to be a Maryland crab cake without Old Bay seasoning. (That is unforgivable.)add 1Tablespoon (give or take depending upon your tast). A dash of Worchestershire sauce is also an optional addition. Gently fold all ingredients to gether and then form them into 4 cakes and regdgerate for 30+ minutes before attemping to fry.

Maryland Crab Cakes I

Reviewed: May 18, 2008
This was pretty good! However I divide into 4 cakes. It is imortant to note that fresh lump blue crab is really much better than any canned crab. It also helps to refigerate the cakes for about a half hour before frying. It really helps them hold together.

Maryland Crab Cakes III

This is just okay. I prefer to use 1-2 tablespoons of soft breadcrumb, much less may and one egg to bind it together. I do not like the onion. Also, you should shop for fresh not canned meat, preferebly lump blue crab.

White Chocolate and Cranberry Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2006
I made these for assorted Christmas cookie bags for my co-workers. My husband says this is his new favorite cookie and he doesn't want me to put these in the bags. I did add extra chips and craisins brand sweetened cranberries. This is a new holiday traditional cookie. Thanks for sharing Diane.

Ultimate Double Chocolate Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2006
Like a few other reviewers, I added chocolate chips. It was a very tasty cookie. I also hand rolled the dough to make a more attractive cookie I only gave 4 stars because of it taking a little extra effort/difficulty than the average cookie. After adding the melted chocolate, I had trouble mixing in the dry ingredients. The melted chocolate cooled so fast it made the dough *very* stiff. I set the bowl in a sink with hot water and used my hand to mix. It was that stiff. Anyone else experience this?

Reese's® Peanut Butter and Milk Chocolate Chip Brownie Bars

Reviewed: Jul. 1, 2005
Awesome!!! I tried this recipe last month for a party at our marina. What a huge hit! They were the first sweet gone. (and there was alot to choose from!) I saved 2 for my coworkers...All they could do is rave (after they stopped making all of the yummy sounds). I cut these into 3" squares and then cut those on a diagonal, because I like the little triangles. I just made a double batch on a sheet pan for the Independence Day Party this weekend. Can't wait til they cool!
