Whole Wheat Honey Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2011
Excellent! I was looking for a whole wheat bread recipe that used whole wheat flour only, and this was perfect. I doubled the recipe for 2 nice loaves. I do not have a bread machine, so I dissolved the yeast in the water with the honey mixed in, that had been warmed to 110-115 degrees. I proofed the yeast, then added the salt & olive oil for shortening, then mixed in the flour gradually along with the dry milk. Kneaded for about 8 minutes, let rise, punched down and formed the loaves and let them rise, and then baked for 30 mins at 350. It is delicious and not too dense or heavy at all, like some wheat breads can be. I highly recommend. If any of you like the Amish White Bread recipe for white bread, you will love this recipe. I now have a dependable whole wheat recipe.

Flourless Chocolate Cake II

Reviewed: May 30, 2010
The taste of this cake was very good, however I wish I would have read more reviews before making it this first time. As others have said, the 30 minutes was not long enough to bake it. I trusted the recipe and didn't know what it was supposed to look like when 'done', so I took it out after 30 mins. Big mistake. After 10 minutes cooling and turning it out on a rack, it was obvious it was not done in the middle at all. I put it back in the pan and oven at 325 for 20 minutes, but that didn't really help much. Since it wasn't really done when I took it out of the pan, part of it stuck. I will make this again, because the taste & ease of making it was great, but I will either modify the time, temp or both to higher and longer. I gave it 4 stars because I think the instructions are defective, and they should say to bake it 30 to 40 minutes and give some sort of test for doneness, such as a clean toothpick.

BBQ Pork Pizza

Reviewed: Jun. 20, 2011
This was a very good way to use up leftover pork. I see in the reviews that some people did not use the dill pickles. Use them! I actually wish I would have put a few more on, because they added to the flavor of this dish. Easy to make, too.

Banana Split Bread

Reviewed: Apr. 19, 2010
This was a fun bread to make. I loved adding all those goodies to banana bread! It baked up beautifully. I followed the directions as written. I personally thought the chocolate was a bit dominant, but my husband loved it and said there can never be too much chocolate! I will make this again!

Baked Onion Rings

Reviewed: Sep. 21, 2008
Breading problem - Like other reviewers, the breading didn't seem to want to stick on the rings. We ate them anyway, and they were okay, but probably won't use this recipe again. Is there a trick other cooks used to make the breading stick?

Cinnamon Coffee Cake II

Reviewed: May 28, 2010
I made 2 of these last night for my husband to take to work for his co-workers' treat today, and he said they raved about it. There was none left over. He said it was outstanding. I will definitely be making this again. It was very easy; I followed the recipe as it is, no changes. Thanks for this recipe.

Granny Kat's Pumpkin Roll

Reviewed: Oct. 4, 2011
This is simple to mix, but I found the devil in the details. The first batch I made was a disaster and fell apart when I rolled it up with the filling. I felt this was due to it not being baked long enough. I made a second one, and added 5 minutes to the bake time, and it came out fine. It still seemed to me to be a rather delicate cake, so handle it gently and don't be afraid if you use more than 2 Tbs. of powdered sugar when you dust the towel. Also, the first (disaster) time, I think my towel was too moist. The second time, I just sprinkled a bit of water on the towel with my fingers and it worked much better.

No Sugar Apple Pie

Reviewed: Mar. 30, 2010
This pie turned out very well and tasted good. However, I think the 'No Sugar' in the title is a bit misleading. This pie has plenty of sugar in it from the fruit and the juice. I was rather taken aback when I saw the calorie content, which is more than a regular apple pie. It was very easy, though, and turned out well.

Meatloaf with Fried Onions and Ranch Seasoning

Reviewed: Feb. 27, 2011
Excellent and easy. I thought the fried onions would be visible with the meat, but they blended right in. Very rich in flavor, held together well, and everyone really liked it. I baked it in a free form loaf in a shallow pan and put a bit of ketchup/mustard/brown sugar mixture on top before baking. Served with roasted potatoes, parsnips, carrots and onions.

Best Cheesecake on Earth

Reviewed: Jun. 16, 2010
Did not care for the texture of this cheesecake, and it was extremely bland, in fact I would say there was no taste at all . The only thing that would give it flavor would be to slather some type of topping on it. Will not make again.

Restaurant-Style Coleslaw I

Reviewed: Jun. 13, 2010
This was delicious. But as others have noted, the dressing is VERY runny. I will make it again, but I will gradually add the milk and buttermilk to see if I can make it a bit creamier and not quite so runny. It appears to me I could reduce the liquids by half and it would help.

Kelsey's Favorite Stuffed Green Peppers

Reviewed: Mar. 16, 2010
I didn't even make this correctly and it turned out wonderfully. I didn't allow for enough sauce, so I topped it with a mix of ketchup, mustard and BBQ sauce. Then I didn't have mozarella cheese, so I used cheddar on top. My husband took one bite and said This is good! And I had to agree. Thanks for a great recipe! I will make this again and again.

Amish White Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 19, 2009
Like most others, I found this recipe excellent. I wanted to experiment with freezing it in both loaf and roll forms, so I froze it, after the first rise and after shaping how I wanted, by putting it in the pan it would eventually bake in, covering with slightly oiled plastic wrap, put it in the freezer. After it was completely frozen, I removed it from the pan and wrapped it completely. I thawed it out overnight before the day I wanted to bake it, put it back in the original pan and let it rise for the second time. It did take a bit of extra time to rise, but - OH MY! - it turned out fantastic. I am going to make it in loaf and roll form and freeze it for Thanksgiving so I can have fresh yeast rolls on that day! Thanks for the great recipe!

Slow Cooker Ham

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2011
Meh. Followed the instructions, but I used a spiral sliced, fully-cooked ham and put in the slow cooker at low for 5 hrs. Tasted okay, except it was very dried out. I read a lot of reviews to help me decide on how long to cook it and if there was anything special to do with the type of ham I used. Plenty of reviews, but still didn't make me 100% sure it would turn out well. Now I know. Will not use this method again. I gave it 3 stars for ease of prep and only slightly embarrassing me in front of my family. Should have gone with the Honey Glazed Ham recipe.

Slow Cooker Beef Stew I

Reviewed: Aug. 2, 2011
The nice thing about this stew is that I could put it in the slow cooker and not think about it until dinner time. The stew itself tasted fine, but it had no special characteristics beyond that. It tasted like every other stew I have made. So it gets 4 stars for being easy.

Baked French Fries I

Reviewed: Sep. 22, 2010
Cooking temp seems too high. I had to take my potatoes out before they burned at about 30 minutes. They were not crispy, just kind of chewy. The seasonsings were not that special; salt and pepper and olive oil would have done just as well for our tastes. Will not make again.

Baked Honey Mustard Chicken

Reviewed: May 31, 2010
Very good, very easy. I doubled the 'sauce' and that really wasn't necessary. But I was asked for the recipe from our guest when I made this dish. I will definitely be making this again. A good dish for company, because I prepped everything, chicken and sauce separately, in the morning, then just put sauce on and popped it in the oven to bake at dinnertime. I served it with plain white rice with cooked broccoli mixed into the rice. Thanks for this recipe.

Quick Alfredo Sauce

Reviewed: Aug. 4, 2011
Good and easy. I would highly recommend for use in any recipe calling for alfredo sauce. I double the amount if I am using it for a lasagna. Also, I added more garlic salt. Very, very good.
