Mango, Corn, and Black Bean Salsa

Reviewed: Apr. 13, 2013
I was surprised to find how much I enjoyed this! This is a great lighter appetizer that will become a staple in my entertaining menu. Per personal preference, I did sub fresh parsley for cilantro and I used frozen corn instead of canned. Served w/blue corn tortilla strips, this was a big hit w/our guests last evening. THANK YOU for the recipe, GMW!

Erin's Jalapeno Hummus

Reviewed: Apr. 13, 2013
Hummus isn't really my bag, but we were having guests that I knew would dig it so we gave this a whirl. It was super easy to prepare and I didn't end up needing any additional liquid. Our grocery store didn't carry dried jalapeno (even in the specialty Mexican section), so I subbed a whole (deseeded and demembrand jalapeno). I'd make this again, particularly when we're entertaining dairy free friends. THANKS for the recipe, erin!

Drunken Berries

Reviewed: Apr. 13, 2013
This made a wonderful addition to a Saturday morning pre-booze cruise brunch! Our liquor store doesn't carry pear liquor, so I had to call an audible and subbed pineapple vodka. Served in a champagne flute, these drunken berries were quite a hit for soon to be drunken guests. THANKS for the recipe, angela!

Savory Monkey Bread

Reviewed: Apr. 13, 2013
This was ok, but I was expecting more of a savory flavor burst. I followed the recipe to a "T", with the exception of halving it. If I made this again, I think I'd definately add a healthy dose of minced garlic. THANKS for the recipe, poppy!

White Spaghetti

Reviewed: Apr. 9, 2013
I hate to be the initial reviewer and kick things off w/a 3 star review, but, for us, it was "ok", just as 3 stars indicates. It was certainly quick to prepare and used pantry staples, but it just had a bit of an off taste to me, kind of like Pasta-Roni. So, if you're a fan of products like Pasta-Roni, you'll love this (and that's not a slam at all, just something to give you an idea of what to expect). Otherwise, this probably isn't for you. THANKS, for the recipe, Amy R!

Johnsonville® One-Pan Italian

Reviewed: Mar. 26, 2013
I have to admit, I'm shocked to be giving this 5 stars! I'm not a sausage fan and was reluctant to try this, but decided to give it a shot based on the ease of preparation and other reviews. It was ready in less than 15 minutes, from start to plating AND I went back for more. I did use the sweet sausage, as it's what I had on hand, and used 2 links, rather than the whole package (though, Mr. LTH said he would have liked more). You really can't go wrong w/this for a last minute weeknight meal. THANKS, Johnsonville!

Mint Julep Cocktail

Reviewed: Mar. 26, 2013
This is a nice stiff drink. I drank a few sips, as is, then decided to add a splash of Diet 7Up for bubbles. CHEERS, Alrecipes!

Dave's BBQ Sauce

Reviewed: Mar. 23, 2013
If you're using this as a replacement for bottled BBQ sauce, you're going to be disappointed. However, if you're using this for a meat baster or IN something calling for BBQ sauce, it imparts nice flavor. I used this in "Slow Cooker Baked Beans" by wannabe chefette on this site and it was a PERFECT addition to that recipe, in lieu of bottled BBQ sauce. THANKS for the recipe, Dave G!

Ham and Cheese Dip in a Bread Bowl

Reviewed: Mar. 23, 2013
This was a hit at a casual dinner party at our house last night. I prepped the dip the night before and stored in the frig until time to bake. I had a hard time finding a round loaf of bread for some reason, so I had to resort to "Plan B" and hollowed a fresh loaf of Italian bread instead. Even my dad, the "cheese hater", enjoyed this dip. I found it a tad too rich, so I'll probably cut the cream cheese in 1/2 and use 1/2 sour cream if I make this again. THANKS for the recipe, Danielle MacDonald!

Slow Cooker Baked Beans

Reviewed: Mar. 23, 2013
These are great and I'm not even a baked bean fan! The only tweak I made was to use "Dave's BBQ Sauce" from here (super easy to make from pantry staples) and I do think that probably imparted a bit more flavor than a bottled sauce, so keep that in mind. I may have used a bit more ham, too, simply because it's what I had left to use. These received rave reviews from guests and multiple recipe requests. This will become a rib dinner side staple at the LTH house. THANKS for the recipe, wannabe chefette!

Mom's Party Potatoes

Reviewed: Mar. 23, 2013
I make my own version of these frequently with CHEDDAR cheese (and lots of added veg), so I was not sure we'd like this mozzarella cheese version. I was pleasantly surprised when we all very much enjoyed these. I used Kraft's shredded "Pizza Cheese" blend for the cheese and eliminated the black pepper per personal preference. I chose to prep these the night before, store in the frig, and simply bake a touch longer (maybe 5-10 minutes more) at service. THANKS for the nice twist, JulezinWI!

Jane's Barbecued Short Ribs

Reviewed: Mar. 23, 2013
These are PHENOMENAL!!! We hosted family for dinner and I can 't count the number of times everyone, even finicky eaters, commented on how great these were. The best part? They're not at all labor intensive. I prepared the marinade and placed the ribs and marinade in the crock pot in the frig overnight. Then, in the morning, I simply turned on the crock pot and went to work. When we were ready to eat, Mr. LTH grilled for few moments to impart some grill marks/smoky flavor. We don't keep horseradish on hand, so I simply left that out. I couldn't find any beef ribs, so we used a mixture of pork spare ribs and boneless pork ribs. While both were delicious, we all preferred the bone in ribs to the boneless ribs. This WILL be a get together staple at the LTH house...nothing beats easy prep ahead of time, letting the slow cooker do the work, and very minimal work at service. THANK YOU so much for this recipe, Cook'N'Gma!!!!

Baby Portobella Alfredo Sauce

Reviewed: Mar. 21, 2013
I didn't love this as much as the previous reviewers. In fact, I'd have given it "3" stars for "ok", but Mr. LTH (unsolicitedly) commented he enjoyed it, so that bumps it up to "4". To me, it was kind of bland. It had a nice earthy flavor, but still a bit bland; I found myself really enjoying the bites w/the fresh parm I'd added to the top. I couldn't get the mushrooms/onions/garlic to puree in my blender w/out adding some liquid, so I added some of the pasta water. THANKS for the recipe, evilcookie007!

Light or Dark Brown Sugar

Reviewed: Mar. 21, 2013
I found myself unexpectedly running low on brown sugar after a failed BBQ sauce attempt and, thankfully, remembered I'd just saved this *recipe*. I'd give this 5 stars, however, the preparation method did NOT work for me, it merely made our counters/floors a sticky mess and made me cranky. After the THIRD bowl change/hand mixer attempt, I decided to use my mini food processor and that was CLUTCH. It made short work of this, w/no mess, and gave me the results I desired. I'm still not sure what differentiates between light/dark? I made as written and the result was LIGHT, so if you're looking for dark, perhaps start w/doubling the molasses and go from there. THANKS for the save, JillH!

Best Cream Of Broccoli and Potato Soup

Reviewed: Mar. 18, 2013
This is delicious! The only tweaks I made were to use an entire (4C) carton of chicken stock and since I was using frozen broccoli, I poured the entire bag in at once and simply simmered a little longer to soften before blending. I also couldn't resist adding a handful of shredded cheddar at the end. Great soup w/minimal effort! THANKS for the recipe, BRITTLEY47!

Stinger Cocktail

Reviewed: Mar. 18, 2013
I made this w/cheap brandy, so I was fully prepared to take a sip, be disgusted, and dump it out. However, surprisingly, this really works. Even w/cheap brandy, the creme de menthe cuts the alcohol in the brandy and the brandy cuts the mint in the creme de menthe, resulting in a very smooth and drinkable nightcap. I can see myself sipping this in front a fire. CHEERS, Allrecipes!

Mind Eraser

Reviewed: Mar. 18, 2013
I'm a sissy when it comes to chugging/shooting shots (and I hate all things coffee flavored), so I was not sure about this one. My BIL and I decided to give these a try and I was pleasantly surprised. This went down super smoothly, with no issue. I can see myself making these again. CHEERS, Emily!

Creme de Menthe Cake II

Reviewed: Mar. 17, 2013
We were hosting my FIL's birthday dinner the St. Patrick's Day weekend, so I thought I'd combine the two occasions w/this cake. After I mixed the batter, I realized I didn't have a bundt pan, so I used an angel food cake pan and it worked well. I added a few drops of green gel to deepen the green color. I was going to make a vanilla glaze to drizzle over the cake, but I forgot! No biggie, because this cake doesn't need anything. Some enjoyed this topped w/vanilla ice cream, while others enjoyed it plain. I'm ready to go enjoy a slice for breakfast right now ;) THANKS for the recipe, WILLOWSMOM99!

Stewed Tomatoes (Gobbledygook)

Reviewed: Mar. 17, 2013
I was hosting my FIL's birthday dinner and decided to make stewed tomatoes, since it's one of his favorite side dishes. Having never made/eaten stewed tomatoes, I wasn't sure what to even look for in a recipe. This one needed a *face*, so it caught my eye. The 2/3C sugar scared me, so I took the advice of prior reviewers and went w/1T and it was perfect! I didn't even think I liked stewed tomatoes and I enjoyed these! THANKS, for the recipe, Clotho!
