Long Island Iced Tea Cocktail

Reviewed: Mar. 12, 2013
This was not as smooth as other Long Island recipes I've tried. I added a bit more cola to make it more palatable, but it was still not my favorite (I did manage to finish it, though ;) ). CHEERS, allrecipes!

Shrimp Stir Fry

Reviewed: Mar. 12, 2013
This was just what 3 stars indicates: ok. It was perfectly easy and well balanced, but nothing about it stood out for us. I very much appreciated the ease of preparation; this was on the table in less than 20 minutes. I think this is a good jumping off point to personalize it a bit per your personal tastes. THANKS, damialyon!

Captain's Mojito

Reviewed: Mar. 12, 2013
I like to say "Mo-Jee-Toe", but I don't tend to like drinking them as much as I like saying their name. This recipe intrigued me w/it's use of Captain (R). It didn't disappoint! The only slight modification I made was to use Diet 7-Up in lieu of soda water (though, in thinking about it, perhaps it's not a modification, after all...). I can definately see making this again when we have fresh mint on hand. CHEERS, byrnesette!

Texas Tea II

Reviewed: Mar. 12, 2013
This drink screams spring to me. Yesterday was our first warm day of 2013 and I made this while preparing dinner. It was refreshing and delicious. The only change I made was no Triple Sec because we don't have any. This will be a repeater at our house. I did find I prefer it was a bit more Diet 7-Up. CHEERS, STINKYKG!

Cough Syrup

Reviewed: Mar. 8, 2013
I can definately see nipping on this w/a sore throat. It has a very menthol-y taste. The 8oz glass throws me, though. I feel like I should make in a shaker w/ice, strain into a shot glass, and shoot it. If I were going to make this a drink, I think I'd add some club soda or other bubbles to round it out for sipping. It's interesting, that's for sure. CHEERS (again) DEEJAYDOC!

Indiana Bulldog

Reviewed: Mar. 8, 2013
I have to admit, I was drawn to this recipe because it was "faceless" AND it had such varied reviews. I hate milk. I won't drink it unless it's mixed w/a LOT of Hershey's syrup and ice. After I made this (and I followed the recipe to a "T", even measure the milk and Coke Zero), I didn't even want to try it, as it doesn't really look good. I did try it, and was pleasantly surprised. It tastes kind of like carbonated chocolate milk, with a subtle cola undertone. I really kind of dig it. CHEERS, CHIRP!

Candies

Reviewed: Mar. 6, 2013
It's a shame so many "non-reviews" have skewed the ratings for this drink. As a general rule, I'm not a fan of SoCo...in fact, I bought a "nipper" sized bottle just to make this drink. I'll be hitting the liquor store (we live in PA; we have antiquated liquor laws...) for a regular sized bottle just to make this. The tagline hits the nail on the head. This is a great social sipping drink for someone who wants to sip at a drink, but isn't interested in high alcohol. I used Dr. Pepper 10 and a full nipper bottle (slightly more than a shot) and it was perfect. I didn't notice a distinct alcohol taste and enjoyed the drink. I can see this becoming a nightcap staple in our world....CHEERS, DEEJAYDOC!

Madcat

This one didn't work for me. Even though I reduced the vodka to one shot, it still has a very strong, almost medicinal, alcohol taste. We don't have "fruit flavored rum", so I used rum w/a shot of cherry juice and it's still super strong. CHEERS, John Keock!

John G's Caesar Salad Dressing

Reviewed: Mar. 5, 2013
This is really good, but you can't go into it thinking "Caesar" or you will be disappointed. I was looking for Caesar and didn't really get it unless I ate a bite w/Caesar croutons and fresh parm. However, that doesn't mean this isn't a nice dressing. Four stars from me simply because it's quite oily. If I make this again, I'll adjust the EVOO and vinegar to more equal amounts. THANKS for the recipe, John G!

Bowties with Italian Sausage in a Cream Basil Sauce

Reviewed: Mar. 5, 2013
I have to preface this review with a disclaimer (or two): I hate sausage. A lot. As an Allrecipes Brand Ambassador, Johnsonville asked us to give their recipes a try. I was dreading it. I bought all of the ingredients, came home from work, and...poured myself a drink. I considered bagging our dinner plan and eating leftover pizza, instead. However, I decided to make myself get busy in the kitchen and I'm so glad I did. Not only did this come together in LESS than 15 minutes (probably closer to 10), but it was also quite tasty, even for a sausage hater like me. Now, I must admit, I used the wrong Johnsonville sausage because I couldn't locate what the recipe called for in our grocery store (I ended w/a New Orleans links). It wouldn't "decase" for me, so I simply chopped it and continued from there. THANK YOU for dinner, johnsonville!

Mama Mia

Reviewed: Mar. 5, 2013
I liked this one! I didn't have Rose's Lime juice (sweetened lime juice), so I elected to go w/7-Up, with IS sweetened (bubbly) lime juice, right? I like how versatile this is. If you prefer a sweeter, more limey drink, use Rose's. If you'd like a little less sweet and more bubbles, use 7-Up. In the future, I'll probably use a combo of each. CHEERS, LPPZZULLO!

The Raji

Reviewed: Mar. 5, 2013
This was a nice simple, lemon-limey cocktail. I only had white rum, so I improvised and added a touch of lemon juice. I never have "real" lemons/limes for garnishes, so I used my usual cherries for garnish. I enjoyed reading the story of how this cocktail came to be/be named. Cheers, (and thank you) callistobug!

Favorite Chocolate Peanut Butter Cookies

Reviewed: Feb. 27, 2013
You can't go wrong w/chocolate and peanut butter, right? I halved the recipe as I only had 1/2 bag of PB chips to use and that yielded 34 smallish cookies. Fresh out of the oven and slightly cooled, these taste great. The true test will come when I try a room temp cookie, though (I'll return to edit, if necessary). The bake time is a little off, for me. I found my cookies (and they were smallish) needed 10-11 minutes to be set. Thanks for the recipe!

Vegetable Cheesy Soup

Reviewed: Feb. 27, 2013
I have to admit, as I was making this, I thought of many methods I thought I should be using to impart more flavor (cooking the veggies in broth or simply sauteing them in butter/garlic, adding assorted herbs, etc). However, I stuck to recipe (worried it was going to be bland and tasteless) and I'm so glad I did. This is REALLY good AND really quick to throw together (my school's on a two hour delay this morning, so I made it as our French toast cooked...it's that easy). I also like that it uses staple ingredients (if I add canned creamed corn to the grocery list), so it can be a great lastminutedidntplandinnernowwhatdoimake meal. It's not the healthiest soup in the world, but at least we're getting some veggies. THANKS for a new soup recipe that will get used again at the LTH house! Random notes: I left out the celery (because it's gross) and used a red onion because it's the only onion I had and the recipe didn't specify type (I'll use yellow in the future, though the red added nice color). I also added some extra leftover frozen corn because my mixed veggie bag was 12 oz. There are no cook temps listed, so I went w/medium high for the roux.

New York Spiedies

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2013
So, I asked Mr. LTH for an extra piece of meat, that's how good these are! A couple of recipe issues, though, make it a 4, rather than 5, star recipe. Yes, it should be ITALIAN bread, not French (and, even knowing that, I still bought the *wrong* style of Italian bread...). More important than that, though, is this recipe needs mint! iI added 1/2 tsp of dried mint (fresh is even better) because I've never eaten Spiedies w/out it. The last issue I have is cubed "beef"...that's a really big window of meats. I used a chuck roast, which I wouldn't recommend, just to prove my point. W/a few small tweaks/clarifications, this IS a great recipe (regardless of the meat YOU choose for your base). THANKS for the recipe!

Creamy Broccoli and Cheese Casserole

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2013
I am currently stuffed to the gills and I STILL want to go sneak a few more forkfuls of this. Despite the fact it's got my dreaded "casserole" in its name, I really liked this! Both Mr. LTH and I thoroughly enjoyed this. It's not the most *healthy* veggie side, so I can't say for sure I'll make it often, but I do see myself making it again. I prepped it the evening before for next day baking. I'd fully intended to toast the bread crumbs before baking, but then i remembered I'm lazy, so I didn't (I did broil for minute at the end of baking to toast them). THANKS for the recipe!

Stoj Shot

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2013
So, I'm torn w/this recipe. It's hailed as a "shot", but at 5+oz, it's a bit much for even a shooter? I made and tried the recipe as is and it was ok, but I didn't feel like slamming a shot, so i topped it off w/Diet Ginger Ale and enjoyed it (and it was tasty; I did enjoy it) as a drink. Cheers!

Fizzy Lime Vodka Press

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2013
I liked this. I subbed Diet 7-Up for Club Soda and garnished w/a cherry rather than lemon/lime. I can't see myself making it again, but I enjoyed it while it lasted. Cheers!

Half and Half Cocktail

Reviewed: Feb. 25, 2013
In our neck of the woods, this is referred to as a "Black & Tan". I'm not so great w/the pour, even using the back o' the spoon trick, so I rarely get the layered look, but it always tastes great! I used a DFH Chickory Stout and Yuengling's Lord Chesterfield Ale for mine this evening. Cheers!

Ramen Slaw

Reviewed: Feb. 25, 2013
I love this and the flavors haven't even had time to meld! This came together so quickly, which made me happy. I used Shrimp Ramen Noodles because it's what I had on hand. I'm already looking forward to lunch tomorrow when I get to enjoy this as it's supposed to be. THANKS for the recipe!
