Baked Spaghetti

Reviewed: Nov. 18, 2013
This was marvelous. I did toss some dried herbs (basil, rosemary, parsley) with the egg/butter/Parmesan/pasta mixture. Don't skip the eggs -- they really do make this a 5-star dish. Oh yes, and I added diced green peppers and mushrooms to the spaghetti sauce, like I always do. Yummy!

So good! Mine turned out just like the ones at the county fair. I would've taken a picture, but we were too busy eating them. Thank you! :)

Country-Style Steak

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2013
I've been eating country-style steak my whole life, and this is the perfect way to make it. You can also simmer it on the stovetop for about an hour if you don't want to turn on the oven. Perfect with homemade mashed potatoes, but you will want to make extra gravy!

Red Velvet Brownies with Cream Cheese Frosting

Reviewed: Nov. 7, 2013
First of all, these brownies are more like a red velvet/cheesecake swirl brownie than a brownie with cream cheese FROSTING. Anyway, I think they're pretty good, but they aren't perfect. They were done at 30 minutes, and they make a lovely presentation. The cheesecake-style topping is also delicious, and I love the suggestion to reserve a bit of the red velvet batter to make swirling a little bit easier and more successful. However, I think the red velvet layer could use a bit of work...the texture came out a bit "gummy" to me, and I think it could use a little more flavor as well. Otherwise, it's a pretty good recipe...thanks!

French Onion Casserole

Reviewed: Nov. 3, 2013
I added cheese and am glad I did...it would have been way too bland without it. We didn't love it, but we ate it. I wouldn't make it again, though. Thanks anyway.

Heath® Bar Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 3, 2013
I thought these were very good. When I tasted the batter, I was afraid they were going to be too sweet, but this wasn't the case at all; the flavor was actually perfect. Two things I would like to point out, though: First of all, I baked mine for 12 minutes, and I think I should have taken them out a minute or two before that. Secondly, I think you should use softened butter in this recipe, as with most cookie recipes. The recipe didn't say. Anyways, thanks...I love Heath bars!

Butterfinger® Cake

Reviewed: Nov. 2, 2013
Love it! It's very gooey and sweet, but it's great. Would love trying something new with it next time too, like perhaps mixing crunched-up Butterfinger bars in with the battery.

Rice Casserole

Reviewed: Nov. 2, 2013
I really don't like leaving bad reviews and seldom do, but this was not good. At all. It turned out really gummy, and the flavor of the two soups was pretty much unbearable. Maybe if made with water and french onion soup, but not like this. Sorry.

Spicy and Sweet Green Beans

Reviewed: Nov. 2, 2013
This is a nice way to dress up a boring can of string beans. They were more sweet than spicy to me, so I might try adding a dash of cayenne next time. Otherwise, very nice. Thanks.

Brown Sugar Sauce

Reviewed: Nov. 2, 2013
Wow, thank you so much for this recipe! I had no idea that caramel sauce was so easy. The flavor was wonderful, and it was a breeze to make. I might play with it to make it a little thicker, but it's great as-is. Thanks so much!

Baked Vegetable Rice Pilaf

Reviewed: Nov. 2, 2013
This was good, and I liked all of the colors. I think it's missing something, though; I will try it again, but I'll add some seasonings to see if I can get more of the taste that I'm looking for. Thanks!

Pot Roast

Reviewed: Nov. 2, 2013
This is a very simple, traditional recipe for pot roast, and it yields tasty, tender results. I also like using the cornstarch and browning sauce -- it makes a silky, flavorful gravy. My only suggestion is to add a little more seasoning; it might be a smidgen too bland without it. Also, try making it in your crock pot for 8-9 hours on low or 5 hours on high!

Mushroom and Bacon Green Beans

Reviewed: Nov. 2, 2013
This is a great and easy way to fix up a simple side dish. I used French-cut canned green beans because I don't care for the texture of frozen ones. The seasoning is spot-on -- great flavor without being too much. Thanks.

Spicy Potatoes and Scrambled Eggs

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2013
This is a very good recipe. Microwaving the 'taters beforehand is definitely a good idea; otherwise, it will take forever to get them done. Great as-is, but try adding stuff to it like peppers, onions, chorizo, bacon, crumbled sausage or whatever you might be craving to take it up a notch. Cheese is a good addition, too. I really like the spices in this recipe, so thanks for the great start.

Restaurant Style Sausage Gravy and Biscuits

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2013
Try using about a half a cup of milk instead of the water...it'll be too runny with that much water, and the milk will make it taste a little better. Also, use hot breakfast sausage and add plenty of black pepper. This isn't as good as the "real" recipe, but it's really not that bad for beginners or those who want to get breakfast on the table quickly.

Pumpkin Brownies

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2013
I REALLY, REALLY like these! I think next time I will do as other reviewers suggested and add more batter to the chocolate part, but it was great as written. I agree with Chef Joy, though; I think my brownies would have been burnt if I would have baked them for the stated time. 33 minutes WAS perfect.

Pumpkin Bar Icing

This is a really good, really easy recipe that you can use to frost lots of things. I frosted the pumpkin brownie recipe from this site, and it made it extra special. It is sweet, but it's oh so good. Thanks!!

Terri's Sloppy Joes

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2013
I made this and thought it was really good, and my BF loved it, too. Simple and just as easy as the canned stuff but better. :) You can taste the BBQ sauce pretty strong, so make sure that you use one that you like, and avoid using one that's too sweet -- I just used Kraft Original myself, might try a hotter one next time. I tasted as is and added a bit of salt, pepper and garlic powder due to personal preferences, but it's great as written, too.
