About this Cook
I'm a 40 yr old foodie currently living in Aurora, IL. I'm very fortunate in that I have plenty of friends and family who will try everything I make, and I'm constantly using them as my guinea pigs! I was born and raised in Canada by my French Canadian parents. I grew up eating a lot of French Canadian foods, and I just love getting back home to Canada to taste mom's delicious cooking. She has always inspired me to cook.
My cooking triumphs
Planning and making a 6-course meal for business associates who were in town. Not only was this the most time-consuming meal I've ever made, it was my first time meeting all of them in person! Stressful day, but a huge success!
My cooking tragedies
Hmm...how about reaching into the oven to take out the Thanksgiving turkey and having the cheap pan collapse, dumping the hot turkey and scorching liquids onto my bare feet. YEEEE-OUCH!

Chocolate Mint Crinkle Cookies
I mixed up the dough the night before, let it chill overnight, then baked them the next evening. The dough was super easy to mix up. If you don't have a double boiler to melt your chocolate, chop the chocolate into small, even chunks, then melt in the microwave at 40-50% power, stirring every 30 seconds or so til melted. This should only take a couple minutes tops. I did find the dough difficult to work with and roll into balls. It was very sticky. It's best to roll all the balls first (or whatever amount fits on your pan - in my case, it was 16), then roll them all in the powdered sugar. Don't go back and forth between rolling into balls, and rolling in sugar. This gets very messy. I baked mine for exactly 9 minutes and they were perfectly done. A nice light minty flavor; not at all overpowering. The recipe only made 55 cookies for me, and I made sure they were about 1" balls (about 7-8 grams each).

Chardonnay Rosemary Pork Roast
OH MY YUM! This might just be my new favorite go-to recipe for roast. First off, it's incredibly easy. Secondly, it cooks in an oven bag, so no mess! Lastly, it's incredibly moist and full of flavor. Convinced yet? Just try it! I made the recipe exactly as written. I'm not a big fan of ground ginger, but I used it anyway and I couldn't even really taste it - I may just omit it next time. Still a winner recipe in this house! All the flavors are really subtle. I used a 2.5lb roast and it cooked about 1hr 15mins, only because I was a little late coming home. Even still, it was incredibly juicy. I may have eaten a bit too much. :)

Pretzel Turtles
So easy to make and delicious! I wasn't sure which chocolates would work better, so I tried both Rolos and Dove caramels and they both worked great. I preferred the texture and overall look of the Rolos though. I used Synder's of Hanover "Snaps" (square pretzels). I made these for a bake sale, packaged a dozen each into some nice festive bags, and they were the first items sold!
