Bananas Foster II

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2012
This is an easy delicious way to use bananas you have laying around. My teenage daughter loves it so much she regularly makes it for us!

Chai Tea Mix

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2012
I love this recipe. I've been asked for the recipe several times and given it for Christmas presents. I do think it is way to sweet as written, so I only use 1 cup sugar, which to me tastes much better.

Laura's Quick Slow Cooker Turkey Chili

Reviewed: Nov. 7, 2011
Love this recipe! Excellent flavor! TO further cut down on the salt, I switched out one can of tomato soup for a can of no-salt added chopped tomatoes. I also rinsed the beans well to reduce the salt there too. I will definitely make this one again!

Chicken Bulgur Skillet

Reviewed: Nov. 7, 2011
Loved this recipe! I couldn't find bulgur in the store so I used rice instead, just upped the broth by 1 cup. I left out the salt and added a little more spices. The caraway seeds and raisins give the dish a very tasty complexity. I would recommend chopping the walnuts well, mine weren't chopped quite enough. The walnuts add a nice texture.

Yogurt Shrimp Fettuccine

Reviewed: Nov. 3, 2011
I would actually give 4 1/2 stars if I could. It has a very nice flavor and pretty easy to make. Needed something low fat and low salt, so I switched out the shrimp for Tofu and it still tasted good, while being a healthier version. Thanks for posting!

Pesto Pasta with Chicken

Reviewed: Nov. 3, 2011
This was a very good recipe, and relatively low sodium and fat, for the flavor. My teenage girl made the recipe for me, since I was busy, so you know it's easy!

Pasta e Fagioli I

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2011
The flavor of the dish was very yummy. Unfortunately, I didn't have canned beans, so I used dried. Even after soaking for 24 hours and cooking for over one hour, the beans were still pretty crunchy. Not good. I strongly recommend using only canned beans-unless you have a pressure cooker and know how to use it. Next time I will do that and it will be very good! This is a good recipe if you are on a low fat, low sodium diet. I used homemade chick broth from this site, and low sodium tomatoes to further reduce the sodium.

Chicken Cacciatore Skillet

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2011
This recipe was pretty good for a low fat/low sodium recipe. To further reduce the sodium, I used Best Chicken Stock (no added salt) from this site and used a low sodium pasta sauce. You could also switch to fresh tomatoes to further reduce the sodium. I used pasta rather than rice since my daughter prefers it. When on a restricted diet, you tend to have foods with a lot less flavor, however, this recipe had more depth than most.

Cathy's Creamy Chicken Bake

Reviewed: Apr. 3, 2011
YUMM! We all loved this dish! Big hit. I didn't have any stuffing mix, so I used bread crumbs and it worked fine. Served with noodles and the sauce was a nice compliment. Very good dish, thanks for posting.

Kielbasa with Brussels Sprouts in Mustard Cream Sauce

Reviewed: Mar. 27, 2011
Everyone liked this recipe when I tried it. I made it exactly as written except I didn't measure the cream, so definitely put more in than was called for. The only thing I would change is that I would maybe add even a little more sauce, and I would definitely cut the brussels sprouts in half before adding to the sauce. The sauce would then seep more inside the sprouts and would give a more even flavor. I can't understand why reviewers are reviewing the recipe based on the picture, not the taste. Really, my dish turned out looking edible, and besides, that's not the point anyway! I always look at reviews before deciding to try a dish. People who give bad review based on a picture are dragging down the average score of a dish they didn't even try, unfairly. I think the site should remove those reviews and ban those reviewers. This is not a photography site. In short, the recipe is good and worth trying for a unique dinner.

Alice Chicken

Reviewed: Mar. 22, 2011
This is exactly like a menu item in a certain "Aussie style" chain restaurant. Very delicious. I couldn't find any honey mustard dressing at TJ's so I found a recipe on this site: honey mustard dressing II. The dressing was wonderful and complimented the chicken perfectly, but if you make your own (I recommend it, the recipe is super easy) make sure you let the dressing sit in the fridge for at least an hour to let the flavor develop. I served just like the restaurant would with mashed potatoes and asparagus. I also feel they way I served was a lot less calories than the restaurant because we did eat as much and I made the potatoes healthier. Great recipe, thanks for posting!

Fast and Easy Hamburger Casserole

I thought the flavor was good, but the biscuits were soggy on the bottom. Maybe I didn't cook it right, not sure. I didn't find that very appealing.

Classy Green Bean Casserole

Reviewed: Mar. 20, 2011
I never got any of these, so I can't testify personally. The reason I never got any was because the teenager table devoured them before they got around to me. I served for Thanksgiving dinner, and got comments like, "Delish!", "Yummy!", you get the idea. Next year, I'll start them at the adult table, and make a lot more. Thanks for posting a vegetable recipe teenagers will actually eat!

Sopapilla Cheesecake Dessert

Reviewed: Mar. 20, 2011
I'm giving this 5 stars because my family all loved it, and devoured in no time! I'm not a big fan of cheesecake, so my opinion is biased. I will say, for a cheesecake type recipe, even I thought it was pretty good.

Chicken Enchiladas I

Reviewed: Mar. 20, 2011
I used enchilada sauce instead of the tomato sauce and water (also for the taco sauce). Everything tasted really good, but very, very salty. I will try the recipe as written next time for less salt. Sometimes easier is not always better! Thanks for the great recipe.

Slow Cooker Salisbury Steak

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2011
Really tasty as written! Very much a comfort food type recipe. I added red potatoes piled under the meat, cut up in small cubes, and they cooked perfectly. Went well with collard greens on the side. Everyone in the family loved this dish, and fought over leftovers the next day! Thanks for posting.

Mid-Eastern Chicken Thighs

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2011
The level of spice was good, as the recipe was written, but as my husband said, "the sauce is a little thin". I ended up adding some cream to the sauce after cooking (and tasting) and then it was delicious. I think milk or coconut milk would work well. Of course, any addition of a creamy type liquid will add fat and calories. This recipe does seem very low fat as written, so it really is a trade off for flavor. If you are looking to save fat/calories this recipe would be an excellent choice.

Banana Frittata

This was REALLY big hit at our house. The flavor is really wonderful- it does take awhile to cook. My daughter loved it, a real treat for kids... we had it for breakfast, kind of like doughnuts, but it would also be good for dessert. Thanks so much for posting this unusual and delicious recipe!
