Beer Brats

Reviewed: Jun. 25, 2014
These brats were so yummy! We didn't top the brats with the beer mixture. I caramelized several onions and served the brats on hoagie rolls--yum!

Sausage and Sauerkraut II

Reviewed: Apr. 23, 2014
Delish! I used the saute mode on my slow cooker and cooked the bacon and onion, then browning the kielbasa. I drained (but did not rinse) the sauerkraut to achieve the "tang" that we enjoy. I then mixed the bacon-onion mixture with the sauerkraut in a large bowl. I then layered the sauerkraut mixture, browned kielbasa, sauerkraut mixture, and the remaining kielbasas. I set the slow cooker on low for 5 hours--the best sauerkraut and kielbasa ever!!

Kathy's Texas Chili

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2014
Delicious--a real keeper. My changes were as follows: 2 pounds of beef sirloin, 1 pound of hot Italian sausage (cut in bite-sized pieces--casing not removed), 1 large red onion, 4 cloves of garlic, no bell peppers, one 14.5 ounce can diced tomatoes, one 15 ounce can tomato sauce, one can chicken broth, 1/4 cup honey, seasonings were the same except for the cayenne. I used 1/2 tablespoon. Just BEFORE adding the tomatoes, tomato sauce, chicken broth, honey and kidney beans I added the spices and cooked with the meats for several minutes. I let the entire mixture cook on low in my slow cooker for four hours. We added the cheddar cheese as well as sour cream to our bowls. I didn't add it to the chili mixture as stated in the recipe.

I used this seasoning with the Spicy Beef Fajitas on this website. The only change I made was to increase the cumin to 1 1/2 teaspoons.

Kiki's Borracho (Drunken) Beans

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2013
We loved this recipe. The only changes I made were: I added 5 slices of chopped bacon to the pot with the chicken stock and the water. I did not add the salt and pepper until this mixture had cooked for 1 1/2 hours. I used 1 tablespoon of kosher salt instead of table salt as kosher salt is less salty tasting in soup, stew, or beans. I replaced the pickled jalapeno peppers with two fresh jalapenos, chopped. My husband said that "this is a keeper." It is soupy, but we liked it that way. I served it with jalapeno cornbread.

Easy Pork Roast

Reviewed: Jul. 24, 2013
We loved this recipe. I did not drain the beans or the tomatoes and used a bottle of Corona. The aroma through our home was wonderful. The pork was so tender and the bean/tomato mixture was very tasty. I would think of it as a one dish meal. I served a mixed salad alongside this dish. I will make it again. It made GREAT pork sandwiches the next day.

Chocolate Syrup Brownies

Reviewed: Mar. 21, 2013
I had a large container of chocolate syrup leftover from another event---enough to make three batches of this recipe. The recipe is worth keeping for that reason. I, too made the recipe in a 13 x 9 inch pan. I did receive compliments on the brownie, though I have other recipes that I prefer more.

Teresa's Hearty Chicken Cacciatore

Reviewed: Jan. 30, 2013
Excellent recipe. I followed the recipe with the exception of adding quite a bit more red wine. WE didn't need to thicken the sauce as it was perfect as is. We served it over linguine and enjoyed every bite!
