About this Cook
I have been interested in reading and collecting recipes since I was about 8 years old. My mother encouraged my participation in the kitchen and I always loved it. I enjoy organizing dinner parties and sharing yummy food with friends.
My favorite things to cook
I particularly love to bake: cakes, pies, cookies, and all types of dessert. I also enjoy meals that involve slow braising in the oven as I love the deep flavors that develop as a meal bakes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I love Thanksgiving! I enjoy having family and friends for dinner and creating a menu that everyone loves. I also love weekend breakfasts: homemade waffles, pancakes, biscuits, etc.
My cooking triumphs
I am always happy to hear that friends are glad that I'm bringing the dessert. I love creating a dessert that is both pretty and delicious.
My cooking tragedies
Many years ago I prepared a cake that was entitled the Best Fudge Cake Ever. It had whipped cream between the layers and a yummy fudge frosting. In my eagerness to complete the recipe, I did not allow my cake layers to cool sufficiently before I filled the cake with whipped cream. Just as I finished frosting the cake with the fudge frosting, a huge "earthquake like" fissure zigzagged across the top of the cake and the cake started falling apart in chunks! The whipped cream had liquefied and caused the cake to fall apart. It was supposed to be a birthday cake! What to do---???? I retrieved my trifle bowl. Lay chunks of the cake in the bowl, adding more whipped cream and shaved chocolate. I'll never forget it! So, I ALWAYS make sure that I've adequately allowed my cake to cool before proceeding with the recipe.

Beer Brats
These brats were so yummy! We didn't top the brats with the beer mixture. I caramelized several onions and served the brats on hoagie rolls--yum!

Sausage and Sauerkraut
Delish! I used the saute mode on my slow cooker and cooked the bacon and onion, then browning the kielbasa. I drained (but did not rinse) the sauerkraut to achieve the "tang" that we enjoy. I then mixed the bacon-onion mixture with the sauerkraut in a large bowl. I then layered the sauerkraut mixture, browned kielbasa, sauerkraut mixture, and the remaining kielbasas. I set the slow cooker on low for 5 hours--the best sauerkraut and kielbasa ever!!
