I check allrecipes.com almost daily for new ideas for meals.  After cooking dinners for over 50 years, it seems like you get into a rut and cook the same things over and over.  Well, I decided to make a change and try some new things instead of repeating my menu forever.  I have found several… MORE

About this Cook
Closing up on my 69th birthday and still enjoy cooking. Maybe I missed my calling. Now I am really into trying some new recipes and have found many, many new favorites on this website. Thanks AllRecipes!
My favorite things to cook
Garlic spaghetti, garlic chicken fried chicken, roasted brussel sprouts (they are so sweet and delicious when fixed this way), any roasted vegetables (I really give my oven a workout)...
My cooking triumphs
Figuring out how to make Chicken Kiev and NOT have the butter explode into the oil when deep frying them. Also not having to stick them together with toothpicks and determining why my cousin who gave me the recipe had included 1 Tbsp of sugar in with the butter....yep it called for "sweet butter" and she didn't know that meant unsalted.
My cooking tragedies
When I was a very young cook I invited company for dinner and roasted the great 8 pound chicken I had purchased. Unfortunately it was a fowl (who knew?) and we couldn't even cut it. So we took them out for dinner instead! So embarrassing...it looked so pretty but was inedible.

Torsk
While the recipe sounded a bit bizarre, I gave it a try and we were very pleasantly surprised at how delicious it was. It does have that wonderful taste of lobster. I used Splenda instead of sugar as suggested by other reviewers. My husband asked for more....unfortunately there was no more since I was leery and didn't cook that much fish in case we didn't like it. I will make this one again and again.

Orzo with Parmesan and Basil
Has anyone considered using this as a cold side dish without the parmesan and with a bit of olive oil and some seasonings? You could add some cooked chicken or shrimp to the mix and really have a complete meal....at lease in my opinion

Garlic Chicken Fried Chicken
This was so delicious that I think I could eat it every night for a while. I made no changes to the recipe just cooked it as it was written. Yummm.
