The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2013
Very good. I tried the original recipe first (using ONLY REAL butter) and found the dough too bland, so went ahead and added in 1 cup of powdered sugar and an extra squirt of vanilla extract. It helped the flavor very much. As far as rolling them out, yes, the dough was sticky, but all it took was a layer of powdered sugar on top and bottom to keep it from sticking. I wonder if those people who used margarine had different results because it wasn't butter. With sugar cookies, I cut straight on parchment paper, so there wasn't any moving over the shapes from one surface to the another. It kept its shape very well and I baked at 400 for 5 minutes on the dot for about a 1/2 inch thick dough. They came out beautiful - brown on the bottom, shiny on top, and perfect for decorating. Will definitely keep this recipe around!

Black Beans, Corn, and Yellow Rice

Reviewed: Aug. 27, 2013
There was no way that amount of water matched that amount of rice, so I adjusted accordingly. The flavor was okay - the corn made a nice crunch. I wouldn't add the beans next time. I found them too squishy and not very flavorful.

Saucy Beef and Vegetable Casserole

Reviewed: Feb. 13, 2013
Pretty good! It took a bit longer than the directions said to get the biscuit dough to cook all the way through. The biscuits also soaked up a LOT of the beef mixture - next time I think I'll make some more of it to even the ratio. It also needed a bit more salt and maybe some more garlic. Overall, good, and definitely going in the recipe book!

Delicious Chicken Casserole

Reviewed: Nov. 3, 2012
This was really good! I'm only giving it 4 stars because I made a few minor changes. I used 2 cups of COOKED rice (1 cup uncooked) and also mixed a cup of shredded cheddar in the cream soup mixture. The cracker topping was really good, especially when sprinkled with more cheese! Definitely a keeper.

Mrs. Sigg's Snickerdoodles

Reviewed: Dec. 11, 2011
Wonderful! I agree with a previous reviewer that 8 minutes exactly is perfect. These are tasty without being too sweet, have a nice bite to them from the cinnamon, and pair wonderfully with coffee in the morning.

Candied Carrots

Reviewed: Nov. 2, 2010
Good, but not quite as good as I expected. I think next time I will add some 'pumpkin pie' type spices (allspice, ginger, cloves, etc) and spice it up. Also the sauce never really thickened so some cornstarch might in order to really make it stick. Good base recipe though. Thanks!

Alfredo Sauce

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2010
I was EXTREMELY disappointed. The flavor was bland. You could barely taste the garlic or the parsley because the milk taste was overwhelming. It never thickened up. It was watery and thin. Will not be making again. :( After all the good reviews I thought I had an easy, simple recipe but now I am just disappointed.

Honeyed Pork Chops

Reviewed: Aug. 8, 2008
Very good! The texture was amazing and the sauce was nice and tangy. I added some bell peppers but otherwise left the recipe alone. I do think it would be better marinated, but we used the sauce as dipping sauce and it was awesome!

Honey Chicken Stir-Fry

Reviewed: Aug. 1, 2008
Pretty good. I used all fresh veggies: a couple of bell peppers, carrots, and broccoli. Also 1/4 cup of honey instead of 3 tbls. It turned out a bit bland - next time i'll add more garlic and spice, but for a customize-type dish, it was wonderful. Thanks! :)

Carrot Cake III

Reviewed: Apr. 13, 2008
Absolutely wonderful. I only put in two cups of carrots because that's all we had, but it didn't seem to matter. Excellent flavor and very moist.

Cherry Pound Cake

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2007
This cake was awesome! Being a first-time pound-cake maker, I was skeptical, but it was easy to follow and tasted great. I glazed it with a browned butter glaze, using some of the cherry juice to add flavor, and it came out yummy!

Cinnamon Raisin Bread I

Reviewed: Dec. 20, 2007
Easy enough to make, and with a good taste and texture. I would have added a bit more cinnamon, and to get the dough to the correct texture I had to add a bit more flour, but all in all a good recipe and one I will make again, for sure!

Whipped Cream Cream Cheese Frosting

Reviewed: Dec. 16, 2007
The flavor was wonderful, but the consistancy, even with chilled cream, warm cream cheese, and letting it chill overnight, was still thin and soupy. I ended up adding quite a bit powdered sugar to thicken it up - it worked, but made the taste slightly 'off'. Definately will not use this again.

Peach Cobbler Bread

Reviewed: Sep. 11, 2007
I added a little bit of honey and a few less peaches to sweeten it up, and it turned out wonderful. Nice, thick bread with a good texture and a great flavor! It worked very well as an on-the-go breakfast item.

I did this, adding a bit of garlic and curry during the pre-baking. It turned out really good.
