Polenta with Rosemary and Parmesan

Reviewed: Aug. 17, 2012
I made this tonight and served with grilled sausages which I sliced and laid over the top - we really enjoyed the end result. I cut the recipe in half and it would have served 4 people as a side dish. Although I did use fresh rosemary, I felt like the recipe could have used a bit more. As well, although I did bake it, I feel like this is not a necessary step - it would have been delicious straight out of the pot.

Grilled Sausages with Caramelized Onions and Apples

Reviewed: Aug. 17, 2012
This was really good - but relies heavily on using a really tasty sausage. We used turkey sausage and I feel like it would be better with pork. The apples/onions were delicious. I followed the recipe exactly using apple cider vinegar and everyone enjoyed the end result.

Warm Belgian Endive and Pine Nut Salad

Reviewed: Aug. 12, 2012
I made this as a side dish to some pork tenderloin the other night and the end result was just ok. We found the dressing to be tangier than we would normally enjoy, but the endive and pine nuts were a really nice combination. I will follow the advice of another reviewer and perhaps use a warm bacon vinaigrette next time.

Cobb Salad

I made this for lunch today for both my husband and myself; both of us thought it was a winner! It was delicious and very satisfying and we'll make it again for sure!

Puffy Pancake with Strawberries and Bananas

Reviewed: Aug. 5, 2012
This is really good and simple. I reduce the amount of bananas and strawberries (1 - 1 1/2 cups each). The end result is delicious with a sprinkle of cinnamon

Old Fashioned Onion Rings

Reviewed: Aug. 4, 2012
We made these for dinner tonight and thought they were just ok. I used panko in place of the bread crumbs and although my husband liked the, the batter is rather thin and I prefer a thicker batter.

Grilled Chicken Taco Salad

Reviewed: Jul. 7, 2012
We loved this! I did make some changes though. I cut my chicken in half lengtwise in order to have more surface for the rub. I made the rub (omitting the cayenne for my kids) and let them sit for about 10 hours in the fridge. I grilled the chicken, sliced it and served on a bed of romaine topped with black beans, salsa, sour cream, the chicken and a little bit of cheese. The end result was very good, healthy, satisfying fare that even my kids enjoyed (after topping theirs with ranch instead of sour cream!)

Garlic Herb Grilled Pork Tenderloin

Reviewed: Jul. 4, 2012
Wow! This was really delicious! I substituted the fresh thyme with a mixture of oregano, chives, Italian parsley and sage. I also used a lot more fresh herbs than the recipe called for (probably close to a cup for 2 tenderloins) and I also added a few tablespoons of soy sauce for added flavour. The end result was really delicious grilled pork!

Easy Tandoori Chicken Pizza

Reviewed: Jun. 5, 2012
I made this for dinner tonight and it was awesome - everyone loved it. I increased the sauce ingredients by 1 Tbsp each and added caramelized onions and mozzarella cheese to the party. The end result was amazingly good, deliciously different pizza.

Pork Loin Chops with Cranberry Maple Chutney and Roasted Root Vegetables

Reviewed: Mar. 12, 2012
This was really tasty - and totally company worthy. For the chutney, I used half fresh and half dried cranberries, next time, I think adding some fresh ginger would be a really nice touch. For the vegetables, I added about 1 tsp of dried herbes de provence and only used 3 sweet potatoes and I added 1 sliced leek as well. The vegetables were really good and I will likely make them again just on their own. The only other change we made was to grill the chops - they end result was delicious.

Cheeseburger Soup I

Reviewed: Mar. 2, 2012
This was really good - but doesn't look very appetizing. I increased the ground beef to 1 lb and kept everything else the same. We thought it was a good ratio and everyone enjoyed the dish - even the kids!

Almond-Crusted Halibut Crystal Symphony

Reviewed: Feb. 21, 2012
I made this fish for dinner tonight and the end result was pretty good, but not spectacular I'm afraid. I did make the beurre blanc and as it was my first attempt I didn't really know what to expect. The end result was very tangy with the biggest flavour being vinegar. I think if I were to make this sauce again, I would look for a different recipe. For the fish, I followed the recipe with one exception, I did not brush the fish with egg, there was enough butter/oil left on the fish from frying that nothing else was required. If I were to make this again, I would skip the frying step as it's unnecessary and just ended up causing a few of my filets to fall apart.

Easy Garam Masala

Reviewed: Feb. 20, 2012
Awesome in a pinch - but no substitution for roasting whole spices and grinding them yourself.

Alicia's Aloo Gobi

Reviewed: Feb. 20, 2012
I made this for dinner last night alongside Chicken Tikka Masala (also from this site), basmati rice and grilled naan, we really enjoyed the end result. I used ground cumin in place of the cumin seeds because that's what I had on hand, I omitted the turmeric because our local grocery store didn't have any, I reduced the amount of cayenne to about 3/4 tsp (kids don't like things spicy). I also omitted the beans and the garam masala (based on other reviews) and the end result was really good! The only change I will make next time is to stew everything together and only add the cauliflower for the last 30 minutes or so (I should note that I stewed mine for about 90 minutes).

German Apple Pancake

Reviewed: Feb. 20, 2012
I made this for breakfast this morning and whlie hubs and I loved it, the kids were a bit indifferent. It was very easy to throw together and although I thought the 1/2 cup of sugar would be too much, it wasn't. We will definitely make this again (and make 'toaster pancakes' for the kids!)

Pasta Carbonara with Leeks and Lemon

Reviewed: Jan. 27, 2012
Loved this - used less leeks (3, which might have stsill bit a bit much) and there was way too much lemon - I would cut that in half next time. The only other thing worth mentioning is that I used pancetta instead of bacon - which was good.

Slow Cooker Beef Stew I

Reviewed: Jan. 27, 2012
We made this for dinner last night - following the directions exactly and the end result was decent beef stew - but in no way will it replace my regular recipe (done in the oven over the hours of hours).

Stuffed Pork Chops I

Reviewed: Jan. 17, 2012
I made these chops for dinner last night and we thought they were just ok. I used a box of cornbread stuffing and cut a pocket in my thick chops and stuffed them as well as put stuffing on top. I had to use cream of celery soup because that's what I had on hand. The end result was alright, not offensive, but no wow factor.

Flatlander Chili

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2012
My DH and I made this for dinner tonight and it was delicious...although we changed so many things that we probably should just post our own recipe! Here is what we did: cut the recipe in half to 5 servings; used 2 cups tomato juice; omitted the tomato sauce; added 1 can "spicy red pepper" diced tomatoes; 4 cloves garlic; omitted the green pepper; added 1 can kidney beans and 1 can brown beans in molasses; we also increased the amount of sugar to about 1 Tbsp and the amount of chili powder by an additional 2 tsp. We simmered stovetop for about 2 hours and then transferred to a slow cooker for about 3 or 4 hours. The end result was absolutely delicious served with sour cream, grated cheddar and sliced green onion.
