About this Cook
Grew up in big family with mother cooking huge meals several times a day. My favorite thing is making desserts but I like it all and am most confortable in the kitchen!
My favorite things to cook
I like to play with recipes. Maybe I have shrimp so I take two recipes for shrimp dishes and put them side by side and use the things I like from each one and leave out the things that I don't like as much or maybe don't have on hand or maybe add an ingredient that isn't included in either recipe. I never make something straight by the recipe. I also like to brown ground beef with onion and green peppers then freeze it. This can become the base for so many wonderful, quick things when you need them. One of my faves is burritos; put burrito on plate, spread canned refried beans on it; then put on diced onions, meat, cheese, black olives then cheese. Use canned enchilada sauce which you will doctor up with adobo seasoning, garlic salt, etc. Pour over enchilada then microwave it till heated thru. Put cheese over it and return to microwave to melt cheese. Add or take away what you don't like - yummy and sooo easy! (Add frozen meat to pasta sauce!)Limited only by your ideas!
My favorite family cooking traditions
We have a huge Thanksgiving event every year where we fry up to 20 turkeys for us and others. People come by to watch the cooking and we fry pork chops, bacon and wings for them as snacks. A lot of beer and Bloody Mary's get consumed that day too. It is our favorite day of the year to share with our family and friends!

Spicy Shrimp and Grits
I made this twice last week! First just to try it and then again on Sat. for a baby shower brunch. They loved it! I used 1 1/2 lbs shrimp, drained the tomatoes and you only need 1/2 the can or it may be too spicy for some (and I like spicy.) I added 3 eggs (tempered) to the grits before adding all the other ingredients. I also added 1/2 lb bacon fried and crumbled to the mixture. I sauteed the veggies in some of the bacon fat. Yummy! I am sharing this with others who have asked for the recipe!
