About this Cook
I am a woman, wife, stepmother, interior design student, and employee. I have cooked in the past, but only when life forced me to do so. My husband is our family "chef" (he loves cooking), but he recently (Dec '08) accepted a position that will keep him away from home longer due to the commute. I am attempting to take on the weekday cooking and household duties in order to take some tasks off of his plate (no pun intended). Lord help us all! LOL
My favorite things to cook
Easy, basic things until my comfort zone increases.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Mom's breakfast casserole for breakfast and sausage stuffing that cooks inside of the turkey on Thanksgiving and Christmas.
My cooking triumphs
1) I didn't burn my first meal! 2) Found the recipe "Spinach Bacon Quiche", and attempted my first quiche. It was outstanding!! My husband jokingly says, "Real men don't eat quiche," but he is certainly requesting this one again along with giving me ideas on how to alter it to suit our other tastes.
My cooking tragedies
1) Burning something that my husband cooked where I only needed to re-heat it. Fairly sad, but true. 2) Oh yes, and I have tried to eye ball measurements and spices before, but the outcome isn't always acceptable. For example, my oatmeal was given the name "the sludge". I now measure my oatmeal and water and eye ball the added extras for flavoring. 3) Burning thin pancetta slices so badly that it barely existed in the pan anymore. As my friend said, "Pricey ashes." It was my first attempt at cooking it. I've never even made bacon before. I should have known not to do so alone. I ended up smoking up our home and my husband threw the hot pan (empty) on to the snow on our patio.

Brooke's Best Bombshell Brownies
This recipe is beyond outstanding! My husband purchased some Valrhona cocoa powder at Pike Place Market yesterday, so I just had to try it out on this recipe. This recipe truly creates the perfect brownie in our eyes. This is my first attempt at homemade brownies, so I'm very happy.

Spiced Banana Bread
This is my first attempt at quick bread, and this recipe was a HUGE success. The only deviation from the recipe was that I added 1C of pulverized walnuts. This bread is SUPER moist and very flavorful. I am very excited to create this bread again.
