About this Cook
Growing up, I have many horror stories on cooking, such as when I tried to make fudge with a friend and we doubled everything except the pan size. Since then, I've learned to overcome my insecurities and experiment with different dishes. My sister an I have this dream to one day come up with a cookbook of fun, but delicious dishes for people to create and tweak to their hearts content. Who knows if that will ever happen, but I do hope to at least begin putting recipes out there. I love learning so feel free to offer constructive criticism. And I really hope some of my recipes are as tasty to you as they are to me!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom gave my brother, sister, and me a note card box of recipes written in her hand. She shared how nice it was to be able to read things in her mother's handwriting and that she hoped we would also value this gift. And I do. I hope to carry that tradition of passing on recipes to my children that my mother once gave to me. I don't mind sharing "family recipes" but I also value having something that is from my family.
My cooking tragedies
When I was little, cooking tragedies followed me everywhere. Often it was because of not following the instructions as thoroughly as I could. But sometimes, bad stuff just happens. A couple years ago, I tried to make jalapeno poppers in a pot of hot oil. Instead of having delicious breaded jalapenos, I ended up having to open all the windows because of the massive amount of smoke that resulted from me dropping the poppers into oil that was way too hot. Since then, I haven't braved deep-frying anything. I'll leave that to those with a deep-fryer, but I do still enjoy making jalapeno poppers when I can. :)

Maple Walnut Pumpkin Pie
Loved this! Make sure you get a large crust because the mixture won't fit otherwise.

Easy Vegetable Pot Pie
It was very easy, but I found the thyme was overpowering. I think that if the thyme had been halved, it would've been a better compliment to the dish.

Grilled Chicken Burgers
I hate to give such a low rating on something everyone finds wonderful, but this recipe was not only difficult because of having to add more and more breadcrumbs, but adding all the vegetables into the ground chicken made for a really strange taste for us. I don't think we'll try this again.
