I am a 64 year old semi-retired computer analyst. Married for 29 years, with 9 children, 15 grandchildren and one great grandson and a brand new great grand daughter! We live in a little piece of perfection in Southwestern Michigan on two small inland lakes.
My favorite things to cook
I love to experiment! My husband is diabetic so I have been perfecting the art of cooking for him for 20 years. I use only the freshest ingredients, grow my own herbs and only use whole grain products when I do use grains (which is not often). I do cook low carb, but do not cook low fat! My husband just turned 80 and he is much healthier now than he was 30 years ago on his highly refined, high carb diet. I cook a huge variety of foods and we eat loads of vegetables.
My favorite family cooking traditions
We have very few traditions. I like to select other people's traditional recipes to try on holidays. That is so much fun and I've adopted a number of them to cook over again. I also love to adapt more conventional recipes into healthier fare. It is truly an adventure!
My cooking triumphs
Finding Irish oatmeal! Oh my, how did I ever live without this!! Learning techniques for making succulent dishes with the freshest ingredients that are wholesome and delicious has been my greatest challenge and triumph. I hardly ever follow a recipe exactly, just from experience and personal taste I modify to suit and rarely go wrong. When I create a new dish that is a winner, I always write it down so I'll remember it and can make it again. I have a great passion for excellent food and keep the menus ever-changing!!
My cooking tragedies
Any time I over-cook something I feel it is a tragedy because I am wasting good food. Otherwise I mostly have triumphs :-)
