Apple Hand Pies

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2013
Wonderful recipe made as stated. However I have changed the recipe to Fuji apples NO sugar or water added. The apples cook down making its own juice. But don't cook them thoroughly. This recipe is great made into a regular Apple pie. Apple's can be substituted with firm pears.

Shortbread Cookies II

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2012
While these cookies are fairly good, I was disappointed. I think the best and only way to get the true authentic taste and feel of shortbread is to just make shortbread in the old and traditional way.

Braised Balsamic Chicken

Reviewed: Aug. 25, 2012
This was good but not spectacular. I'm trying to figure if it was because of me or that it just wasn't as great as I hoped it to be. Next time I'll leave out the rosemary and thyme.

Italian Sausage, Peppers, and Onions

Reviewed: Aug. 25, 2012
This was a good recipe but I think the final results would be determined by the sausage you use. I'm thinking the sausage I used wasn't good enough because it was the store brand. Ill be making this again with specialty sausage next time.

Peach Whirligigs

Reviewed: Jun. 22, 2012
These were okay. I thought the flavor of the biscuit mix was to much like a biscuit rather than a coffee cake type. I will use this recipe again but use my own biscuit recipe.

Shepherd's Pie VI

Reviewed: Jun. 22, 2012
This recipe is 10 stars. I've made a lot of shepherds pies over my live time but this one is by far the best. I don't think it needs extra spices, I automatically add more pepper to everything so it was great. The only thing I did differently was I put the carrots in the blender.

Apple Cinnamon White Cake

Reviewed: Jun. 11, 2012
This is definitely a 5 star recipe. I was thrilled with how this cake turned out. It reminds me of a pound cake. Delicious. I added fresh strawberries and cream cheese to make a great frosting. This is a keeper.

Autumn Apple Blender Cake

Reviewed: Jun. 4, 2012
This is a pretty good recipe. It was easy and fun, I'd never made a blender cake before. The only things I'd change is that I'd leave out the allspice, was a little overkill with the other spices, and I'd add more chopped apples.

Chef John's Scones

Reviewed: May 16, 2012
These scones were very good. I enjoyed the video and Chef John's sense of humor. I made them as outlined in the recipe. I much prefer to read reviews that are made as outlined. When you change things without having made the original first, you're not really giving an accurate review. As far as I know, there is no true way to make scones. Not unless you invented them. I've been making scones for my husband for over 40 years and we enjoy the many different takes on scones. We do like currants in the scones and we usually eat them after dinner for dessert instead of in the morning. This is a very good recipe which I will make again and added it to my huge collection of scone recipes. Thank you Chef John!

Basic Biscuits

Reviewed: Feb. 17, 2012
These were pretty good. There just seemed to be something missing. They rose nice can high. Oddly enough we liked them better once cold. I would definitely make them again.

Spritz Cookies IV

Reviewed: Mar. 27, 2010
These were good, although not the best flavor I've tasted in the past. They made good fillers for cookie boxes.

Child-Proof Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 14, 2009
This is the very best sugar cookie I have ever had and the family loves them too. I've been baking this recipe every Christmas for the past 6 years. It's the best. I have traded the shortening for butter once or twice, and they were good, however, everyone asked for the - real - sugar cookies. I love that they do not have to be chilled in the fridge before rolling out. The dough can be a bit on the dry side for some but if you keep working it a bit it rolls out very nicely. You can roll it out between waxed paper or parchment paper. Thanks for the recipe!
