About this Cook
My family is from the Omaha tribe, and I treasure our all natural, resourceful roots. I cook traditional food with a healthier twist. Training: Holistic Health Practitioner, Certified Clinical Herbalist and Certified Clinical Nutritionist from CA state approved program
My favorite things to cook
Holiday meals. Even more interesting than what I like to cook is what I like to eat: My dad's fried chicken, my mom's lemon meringue pie, my neighbor's top sirloin steak,my grandma's red enchilada's, my aunt's green enchiladas, my other aunt's tai chicken soup, my other aunt's beef jerky, my other aunt's salsa, my other aunt's wine cake my son's cookie dough frosted cookies and any other food made by a child. Well, pretty much any food made by a child.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Snack time when my son comes home from school.
My cooking triumphs
I was vegetarian until I was a teenager and didn't eat red meat until I was 19. At the time, I was cooking at a gourmet, vegan restaurant. Once I discovered how delicious red meat tastes(an Arby's roast beef sandwich) I added meat to my diet. Learning to decently cook meat has been a long series of small triumphs.
My cooking tragedies
Learning to decently cook meat has been a long series of small disasters.

Tempura Fried Ice Cream
Gutsy and fun! This is not just a recipe, it is a fun way to make a lazy summer day special. I had all these ingredients on hand and am glad I didn't have to step out into the hot sun to go to the store to try something new today. I think this recipe has a typo- an extra "1" in the flour amount- it probably should be 1/2 not 1/2. But if you are familiar with making tempura dishes, you probably already could figure that out. Adjust the flour depending on the humidity of the day and your region. A little ice in the batter will chill it, shocking the batter into light crispness as it is fried.

Cornell Chicken Marinade
Growing up in western NY, this recipe was synomymous with fireman fund raiser barbeques. It is truly a special recipe to me now that I live in southern California. My absolute favorite cold bbq chicken leftovers.
