Ruth's Grandma's Pie Crust

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2013
This Crust was fantastic!! I have never ever made pie crust on my own before. Sad I know... I am 42, but I always made it with my Nana. When she passed, well she took her recipe with her as well as my passion for making pies. Well this year I decided to give it a try! And this recipe came darn close!! I just made a few change's to make it closer to my Nana's recipe. Instead of all shortening I used 1 Cup of butter and 3/4 cups of shortening. It turned out flakey and wonderful! No burning, or too much browning around the edges. Also very flavorful! Thanks for sharing! I will add pictures the next batch of pies - for New Year's!

Spicy Slow Cooker Black Bean Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 24, 2010
This was fantastic! I have never made beans or black bean soup before so I followed recipe exactly. We ate this with white rice, sour cream, shredded cheese and homemade and homemade corn tortilla (we used tortillas instead of untensils). It was delicious! I can see how others will change it up as a great base soup, but I found it fantastic as is. My husband loved it. It is spicey and not for those who don't enjoy a little kick. Thank you for sharing this!

Spiced Pears and Pomegranate

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2010
This was so yummy! My 9 year daughter and I made it together. Its truly that easy! Great flavors! We actually used an orange from our orange tree and pomegranates from our tree. We substituted the lemon juice juice with orange juice because we didn't have any lemons and it was wonderful! This is definitely going to be a staple in our house!

Lebanese Fattoush

Reviewed: Nov. 7, 2010
This was excellent! I actually toasted the pita rounds and cut them into fours. we piled the fattoush on top and used the pitas as scoops. It was wonderful! Some Fattoush is more 'simple' in its ingredients, but I feel this one was very good and each ingredient complimented another in its own way. I recommend giving it a try!
