About this Cook
I am a food addict and don't plan on recovering any time soon! I truly enjoy cooking and baking, though I still have much to learn. In addition to kitchen time, reading is one of my favorite hobbies. Also, I am the oldest of seven children, and my husband and I spend a lot of time with both of our families, because our parents and siblings live close. Finally, this is my second year in the Allrecipes Brand Ambassador program. This means that I volunteer to promote Allrecipes, because I love it!
My favorite things to cook
I enjoy trying new foods, but I often cook chicken dishes, because they are fairly easy and cheap. I really enjoy baking, but my husband does not like many sweets (much to my chagrin!) So, I often volunteer to bake a dessert whenever we spend time with other people or attend a church activity.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My favorite cooking/baking traditions are those that occur the days before holidays. My mother and I sometimes stay up all night baking together (usually Greek & Jewish recipes handed down from my grandmothers), and it is truly a bonding time.
My cooking triumphs
Most of the recipes from Allrecipes lead to cooking success stories. Thank you to all the members of AR that have contributed recipes and reviews. They have been quite helpful!
My cooking tragedies
When I first began cooking, I had several poor attempts at using the broiler, most of which ended in a fire! I am happy to report that I have finally learned how to use it, after several tries. :)

Minute Chocolate Mug Cake
I was craving something sweet but didn't want to make something time-consuming. This was simple to make and took 5 minutes (did it on a commercial break). I followed the directions except I used white chocolate chips instead of the semisweet minis and walnuts instead of almonds b/c that's all I had. I really wish I had the minis, because the large choco chips sunk right to the bottom and stuck to the mug! This cake is chocolatey without being too sweet or rich and the milk added a nice creamy taste. However, next time, I will use 2 or 2.5 T of milk, because I had just a bit too much liquid. The cake formed, but there was a little "chocolate milk" liquid around it. (Microwaved mine for just over a minute because I just used one larger mug rather than a few smaller ones.) I'll probably make this again as it's a great cake to randomly make for 1-2 people.

Creamy Chicken Dijon from Mazola(R)
Another great recipe from Mazola! It tasted just like the recipe states - creamy with a hint of mustard. I served it over egg noodles, so I doubled the sauce because we like our noodles doused in sauce. I don't have a Dutch oven, unfortunately, so I just cooked it all in a deep skillet on the stove. Also, I added a few dashes of onion powder to the chicken as it browned for added flavor. Oh, and I used heavy cream instead of half and half because I already had it in my fridge. This was very good!

Greek Lentil Soup (Fakes)
Delicious and healthy! I followed the first two steps exactly and then dumped it all in the slow cooker for a few hours. Served with homemade bread.
