Holiday food traditions. We all have em. And it's ripe for that time of year- to be discussing how to spice up the menu- forgive the cliche. So, in an attempt to shake things up a bit, my mother decided that she would risk her life by suggesting that we deviate from the normal holiday menu.… MORE

My favorite things to cook
Anything that I can successfully complete without burning down the house, and the food tasting relatively decent. Ok, I'm not that bad of a cook but that thought always looms in the back of my head....Oh, and desserts and baked goods are my bag.
My favorite family cooking traditions
"what are you bringing?" I love finding out what weird thing my sister might cook that we will all end up loving, or that my mom always asks me to bring the dessert. My mom is always the traditional one, my sister makes the ethnic stuff, and I love the sweets. Sugar cookies that are my Grandmother's recipe are tradition at Christmas, and my mom's Ham Pot Pie are a birthday dinner staple- even though she refuses to cook it now because it's so dang complicated. And messy.
My cooking triumphs
I've been making some pretty rocking sauces for ravioli. I've discovered a Italian vendor at the Farmer's Market, and I'm obsessed with his homemade ravioli. And my new sauce concoctions :)
My cooking tragedies
Oh boy. Where do I start?! 1000 words may not be enough room.... I made Stuffed Peppers for the first time (10 years ago) and had my mom and dad over for dinner- thinking it would be a huge success. Then, we dug in and I found out that you have to cook the rice before you use it in the meat mixture in the peppers. Duh. Needless to say dinner was a tad crunchier than expected. My first attempt at my Grandmother's Santa Sand Tarts (which is the sugar cookie that is a tradition in our house) was a bit of a debacle. Who knew that sugar cookies required sugar?! I mean geez. (If you don't get that, I don't know how to help you.)
