I'm a Dad who loves to cook for my incredible wife and two boys. I'm the typical over-babed dude constantly trying to live up to my wife's awesomeness.
My favorite things to cook
Breakfast- eggs-to-order, crepes, trying to master the stir-fry, dabbling in bread baking, BBQ...(duh)
My favorite family cooking traditions
Mom was the master of the rare roast beef. She was a highly accomplished cook who studied in France while my folks lived there in the late 60's...so the traditions range from the big holidays- the whole family of 30+ cousins and aunts & uncles every thanksgiving, to the day-to-day...she made the best macaroni & cheese ever. The list goes on.
My cooking triumphs
cracking the code on making Good chinese-style stir fry @ home...lame, I know. small victories.
My cooking tragedies
I have trouble with making sauces consistently....practice.

Chef John's Perfect Prime Rib
Didn't change a thing. This was perfectly cooked and seasoned. My wife and 13 year old son were a bit wary about it being too rare, but one bite from the carving instantly won them over.

Barbequed Ribs
Outstanding recipe. Double the sauce for sure. Sauce was very sweet and good for those of low-spice tolerance. Kids ate it up. Totally worth the effort.

Authentic Pad Thai
This was really good just following the recipe, although not as good as decent pad thai from a restaurant. I think if I simmered everything together for a little longer (e.g. more than 5 mins), it would have reduced the vinegar flavor which was pretty obvious. Also, my noodles were a bit al dente - so more evidence that I didn't simmer long enough. All in all, this was REALLY good, but the bar is set pretty high for me as there is a lot of good Thai here (Seattle) that this dish is competing with.
