Growing up under the guidance of two wonderful grandmothers who were also great cooks I started very early learning tips and techinques in the kitchen. My first cooking job was in high school where I helped serve lunch for all four years. From then on I have completely enjoyed the commercial kitchen and experimenting with foods.
My favorite things to cook
Vegetables in many combinations with herbs and flowers from my own beds. Healthy and organic dishes are a few of my favorites, but there is something about making bread that is very special.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Growing up my family took advantage of every holiday to show off their cooking (every lady cooked). There was always at least 2 tables full of food. We always could and usually did feed an army of people. No one left for home without food to take with them.
My cooking triumphs
While getting 75 of the same desserts ready during a catering event, the chef announced that 24 more desserts would be needed and that they must all look alike. I had a limited amount of the resources needed. It was an anxious moment, but I did it!
My cooking tragedies
The first political dinner party I cooked for was a grill out, and wouldn't you know it I cut my finger while shredding cabbage and had to toss all of it (about 6 pounds) and run to the store and start over before any of the party started to arrive.
