About this Cook
A very SOUTHERN and sassy, 30 something, single mom of a food loving teenage boy. I have always had a love for food and cooking, but have often been too busy to really dive in to it. Over the last few months, I have alotted some time each week to try a few new dishes and perfect the baking of the chocolate chip cookie. :)
My favorite things to cook
Anything and everything. I have traditionally been a cook and never considered myself a baker..BUT I can honestly now say...I am a cook and a baker. I have had so many more cooking/baking successes than cooking/baking failures over the last few years.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Growing up, my parents both worked and my brother and I were involoved in more activities than I can remember. My grandmother or our housekeeper often provided our dinners. My grandmother made some signature casseroles that I still look forward to and make today. Out housekeeper was an expert in Mexican food cuisine and made some of the most delicious dishes I have ever had. I didn't realize how much I learned from her at the time and that experience and those recipes are priceless.
My cooking tragedies
Baking. Period. Until recently, I just couldn't do it successfully. I am sure if I lacked the patience or just was horrible and measuring out ingreadients. None the less, this area is so much better and continues to improve.

Juicy Marinated Steaks
I did like the flavor that this marinate gave to our boneless ribeye steaks. Time did not allow me to marinate steaks for as long as I would have liked (close to an hour) and it was still tasty. I will be trying again.

Coconut Shrimp I
WE LOVED THIS RECIPE! Living in the South, we have access to fresh shrimp all the time. Coconut Shrimp had always been on my list of thing to try at home and I am so glad I did. I followed recipe to a T and while it was a bit messy and slightly time was 110% worth it. I will be making again very soon!
