No Fail Pie Crust III

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2006
Made this once when I was out of shortening and I'll probably never go back either (unless I'm out of butter, ha-ha). Hubby is a real "crust freak". Last time I made this crust, he could care less what the filling was and just wanted to eat the crust. Thanks for a terrific recipe!

Chicken Salad Pitas

Reviewed: Apr. 14, 2013
I omitted the carrot and doubled everything else, shredding rather than cubing the Mozzarella. Used just enough Zesty Italian dressing to moisten. This was nice and crunchy and so tasty. A real keeper!

Burmese Chicken Curry

Reviewed: Apr. 16, 2013
We live where you would never find garam masala so I got a recipe off of about.com Even with that, I couldn't get the black cardamon that is used in it. If you follow that recipe you will have a lot left over so be in the mood for Indian food for awhile. I just left the boneless thighs whole and they fell apart in chunks by themselves after cooking. This was a really good recipe but I will add about double the curry for our tastes next time. Thank you!

Applesauce French Toast

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2009
I used a little more applesauce (1/3 c.) and a little less milk (2/3) and 1 T. brown sugar instead of the white. Used slipper cibotta bread cut thick (1"). It made 8 pieces. Everything else was the same. I cooked it on an electric griddle at 350. Served it with applesauce on the side and warm maple syrup. Powdered sugar and a fruit syrup would be really good with this, too.

Lemon Butter Chicken

Reviewed: Sep. 22, 2007
Used 6 boneless skinless thighs. Didn't have a lemon so also used the 2 T. lemon juice. Quick, simple, no fail, no fuss recipe. Came out tender and delicious. Next time I'll put the sauce over pasta. Thanks!

Crustless Spinach and Mushroom Quiche

Reviewed: Apr. 18, 2013
This was very good. I never heard of jalapeno yogurt cheese, so I used 1 1/2 c. plain yogurt and a 1/4 t. of my Sister's dried, homegrown habenero. Yahoo! I preferred the quiche on this site I made about a week ago, Crustless Spinach Quiche (and I did add mushrooms; see my review) as I like the cheese to melt into it and Feta won't do that. I increased all of the ingredients by 1/4, using 6 eggs. It took one hour to bake. I'm thinking it would go well with thinly sliced lamb.

Lori's Spicy Chipotle Lasagna

Reviewed: Jun. 19, 2010
Beyond excellent! So much flavor! Like someone else said, I'll never boil lasagna noodles again --that was the bonus. For our tastes, used 1 T. of the chipolte chili in adobo sauce (about 2 chilis), 3/4 t. sea salt, 3/4 t. black pepper and it was just perfect. Also, used the diced tomatoes as others suggested. Had to use dried spices; 1 t. basil and 2 t. oregano. Used 2 containers of mushrooms, Neufchatel in place of cream cheese and a slightly bigger bag of spinach. Didn't have Asiago so doubled the amount of Parmesan. I don't think it made a bit of difference using what I had on hand. This was absolutely to die for! This made one 9 x 13" and one 9x9".

Fluffy Biscuits

Reviewed: Sep. 27, 2007
These turned out just as advertised except that they didn't raise as high as the pictures. This only tells me it's time to throw out the huge container of baking powder that's older than the hills! These were perfect, fantastic with our soup last night --so much so, that I brought out a tub of creamy strawberry fruit spread (with "real strawberries and natural yogurt") and we had them for dessert, too. Highly recommended that way as well! Yum, yum, yum. The only recipe I'll use from now on. Thanks so much!!!

Easy Dump Cherry Crisp

Reviewed: Jul. 16, 2010
I gave it 5 stars because it is what it is...easy and we were camping. Maybe it was that I thought there was too much of the canned pie filling (used blueberry) and that the focus was on that? Or else I was thinking it needed a crust made of the same topping ingredients. It WAS perfect for camping having few ingredients, easeof making and taste, though, so I will make it again for on the road. Thanks!

Ukrainian Red Borscht Soup

Reviewed: Aug. 25, 2014
This was absolutely wonderful! I never bought a beet in my life and had no expectations of what Borscht tasted like. I used the whole cabbage and didn't peel the potatoes. It was like the best vegetable soup ever (only with pork). We just loved this and couldn't get enough of it --hot or cold! Thank you for a "forever" recipe!

Seasoned Fan Potatoes

Reviewed: Mar. 13, 2009
These would make wonderful company potatoes because of the nice presentation. We ran to the hardware store and got 2 small wooden dowel rods and cut the potatoes between them. I loved another reviewer's thoughts on adding rosemary. I think I'll rub them with oil and rosemary next time and fresh ground pepper. Great recipe! Thanks!

Byrdhouse Marinated Tomatoes and Mushrooms

Reviewed: Sep. 9, 2009
This was just wonderful! Used tomatoes from the garden and I know there was more than what was called for so I did double the dressing. Not necessary! We had to pour some of it off. Very, very tasty. Thank you!

Delicious Chickpea Curry

Reviewed: Oct. 7, 2011
This was on the sweet side but I tempered it by putting it over brown rice. Nice blend of flavors. Would pair it with a meat that would have simple spices or it would be a poor match in competing tastes. I did use half of the cayenne after reading the reviews but I might add the other half in when reheating today. We love yams and this was a nice, new and interesting way to serve them.

Buttery Soft Pretzels

These were delicious!!! Brought them to an appetizer potluck and made them into about 3" twists, serving them with a spicy honey mustard sauce and they were immediately GONE!!!

Sandy's Chocolate Cake

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2011
This was WONDERFUL! SO moist, just the right sweetness of the cake and the frosting. I didn't have 3 wire racks that were larger than the cake to turn the cake out on. Only had two and they came out perfectly but the third one (which then became the bottom) fell off the smaller-than-the-pan one on one side. I was a little short of the 1 cup sour cream for the frosting but just added some evaporated milk that I needed to use up until it was the right consistency to spread nicely. THE only chocolate cake recipe that I'll use now.

Snow on the Mountain Green Beans

Reviewed: Dec. 8, 2011
This was a nice change but next time I will use a better quality feta. It makes a difference. I usually auto-nuke my green beans but I do like the better control of cooking them on the stovetop. Thanks for sharing!

Cindy's Awesome Clam Chowder

My husband makes Clam Chowder every winter. This time he incorporated this recipe into his Maybe it was the addition of the Knorr Leek Soup that put this over the top. Beyond EXCELLENT!!! Thank you so much, Cindy!!! We just couldn't get enough of it, glad he about doubled the batch!

Grandma's Stuffed Celery

Reviewed: Mar. 5, 2012
I used Kalamata olives because that's what we like. Added chopped red pepper for color and a tablespoon of Worcester Sauce. Thank you for a great twist on stuffed celery. I never would've thought of the olives!

Split Pea Soup

Reviewed: May 17, 2012
This was SO tasty...just perfect!!! My new favorite Split Pea Soup recipe. I was a tad more generous with the marjoram, about an 1/8-1/4 t. I'm thinking that is what "makes" this recipe. I didn't add the potato because the consistency was perfect without it. GREAT recipe, thank you for sharing!
