Me and my little granddaughter, Heavyn...
About this Cook
I am married to a wonderful man and we have a blended family of 5 grown children and an ever-expanding number of grandchildren. We camp alot in the summer and I love to cook in any setting whether it be home kitchen, RV kitchen or a campfire. I am a nurse at a longterm care facility and enjoy surprising my residents with a wonderful dessert now and then. They always love whatever I choose to make.
My favorite things to cook
I am a comfort food lover and my husband loves spicy foods. I try to mix my menus to satisfy both of our pallets. He has gained a few pounds since we have gotten together, so I guess that says something about my specialties and ability to "mix it up" a bit.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Mashed potatoes and gravy are my favorite ! I just love great food...what else can I say ? I am from a large family (7 brothers and 2 sisters) so I learned how to cook for a crowd very early in life.

Molasses Sugar Cookies
These are the best cookies ! Because I had to use what I had on hand, I adjusted the recipe alittle. I used 1/2 cup of butter and 1 cup crisco shortening and used 1 cup white sugar and 1 cup light brown sugar...they turned out so good ! I wrote down my alterations and will make them like this all the time. My husband LOVES them !!!

Perfect Turkey
I have brined my bird for years...the first time I did this, I was trying to salvage a pastdue frozen turkry that I thought surely was past it's prime (frozen for two years). It was so good !!! I made this my ritual when making a turkey or a whole chicken. I always brine in a salt and sweet mixture, using whatever I have onhand at the time. Honey, pancake syrup, brown sugar, white sugar along with just plain table salt that is well dissolved in water. Mix and match what you like. You will not regret doing this. I always use a cooking bag for my roasting endeavers.
