About this Cook
I am a home cook who loves to experiment and create in the kitchen. I love to both cook and bake. My one place I am not the best at is the grill - and I leave that to Grumpy! Since I started using AR several years ago, my home life has changed a lot. My sons no longer live at home and its just Grumpy, me, and our 3 cats. We live in the Albany, NY area, 4 hours south of our hometowns. A new life began for us two years ago when Grumpy accepted a job in Albany, NY and we left our families behind to move to this region. The one thing that has not changed (besides our love for each other!) is we both LOVE to Eat!! :) I was just accepted into the Allrecipes Allstar program and am looking forward to participating in the program with other AR lovers!
My favorite things to cook
I always was a baker but since I started blogging almost 5 years ago, I have also become a more experienced cook. We love pasta meals and especially Asian inspired meals. I love homemade candy although I'm not the best candy maker, I will still attempt it every so often. My very favorite sweet treat from this site is Brooke's Bombshell Brownies. I've taken the recipe and used it as a base to create several different brownie recipes, my favorite being "when life gets you down" brownie (chock full of Peanut Butter flavor) and a peanut butter caramel swirled brownie. Both recipes are on my blog grumpyshoneybunch.com.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Summer fish frys at my aunt and uncles home. Homemade fudge and popcorn on Saturday nights while a child! When my boys were younger Friday night was homemade pizza and movie night and some of my most special memories are baking cookies with Nanny. I have every one of her "special" cookie recipes on file and when feeling nostalgia hit I will bake one of her recipes.
My cooking triumphs
My best compliment ever - a cheesecake I made was described to be "better than Juniors!" The pumpkin fudge recipe on this site that I reviewed at 5 stars....this is an awesome cooked fudge recipe. My son totally loves the fudge and so do I!
My cooking tragedies
Once when I was first married, I made fudge. It didn't set up and I was too embarrassed to tell my hubby, so I hid it in the closet (no idea WHY I did such a thing!) and ended up forgetting about it. We came across it one day cleaning and I had to fess up, he had more of a laugh because I tried to hide it!

Fast English Muffin Pizzas
I love english muffin pizzas. The only thing I do different is I lightly toast the english muffin first or it is soggy on the bottom. Very yummy, very quick and so simple when you need something fast!

Megan's Granola
I halved this recipe and it still made a LOT of granola. Great if you have a large family you are feeding, but for us I would probably half it again. I ended up making several substitutions as I did not have all ingredients listed in the recipe. I had no wheat germ or oat bran but I had ground flax so I used just that. I had no honey so I used pure maple syrup. I had no sunflower seeds so used what I did have which was filberts and almonds. I also added huge organic coconut flakes and Trader Joe's tropical fruit mix and dates. This is a great base recipe and I was very happy with my results. Definitely will keep this one on file for future use!

Sauza(R) Southwest Margarita
Very pretty drink! I used Sauza Blue Silver Tequila for the recipe. This was very smooth and tasty. I prefer a little less sweet however and feel that can be controlled by the amount of sugar in the margarita mix (made my own mix of 1/2 cup water, 1/2 cup lime juice and 1/4 cup sugar). I would probably reduce the sugar for my mix the next time.
