I'm finally at a point in my life that I can hopefully devote more time to cooking - not just for sustenance, but also for pleasure.
My favorite things to cook
Despite being responsible for my home/family for 20+ years, I don't consider myself a cook. I'm a beginner in all forms of cooking and haven't developed any favorite style. I'd like to learn more about baking, slow cooking, and roasting meat (I struggle with making tender meat). If I had to pinpoint a food style, it would have to be comfort food.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mother grew up in the depression and much of her cooking style was derived from the 'waste not want not theory'. She worked with basic ingredients and did a lot of her own canning and freezing. I would like to have a comfort level working with fresh ingredients that are cost effective.
My cooking triumphs
The skin on the turkey this past Thanksgiving (2012) was as golden and as crispy as I ever done.
My cooking tragedies
I will never live down the lumpy/paste like mashed potatoes I did several years ago.
