Risotto gets a bad rap. They say it asks too much of the busy cook because you can’t just pop it into the rice cooker and walk away. No. You’ve got to stir it. And stir it. And stir it. Too labor-intensive, they groan. Well, I’m not here to dispute the spoon time that goes into making a… MORE

In the magical world of Harry Potter, only the most powerful witches and wizards can cast a spell without a wand, and even then it’s crazy difficult. Why this should be so was never completely explained to my satisfaction, but no matter. In general, if you’re going to work your magic you need a… MORE

It's not enough to stop and smell the lavender; this year I've decided to cook with it. And I won't be running out of this heady little flower any time soon thanks to my inability to accept that a tiny lavender plant eventually grows into a large lavender plant, multiplied by… MORE

About Me
Two working adults and a kid in school. Someone has to cook and that someone is usually me. *sigh*
My favorite things to cook
Whatever makes my family smile while they're eating.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I cook, they clean up after me. It's the kind of tradition I can fully embrace.
My cooking triumphs
No one has asked me to stop yet.
My cooking tragedies
When I was 13, I made pecan rolls for my family. The recipe called for 8 refrigerator biscuits but the package held 10. My mom asked me what I did with the other 2. Judging from the look on her face, "I threw them away" wasn't the right answer.
