A few years ago a dear friend taught me how to wax and dye Ukrainian Easter eggs, and being a couple of obsessive crafters with lots of time on our hands, we settled down to make dozens and dozens of eggs. The basic idea is to draw a design on a raw egg with melted beeswax and dip the egg… MORE

But of course I'm not Irish. Like that matters today. I am by birth 100% hapa but I'm not going to let that get in the way of making Irish stew and champ and washing it down with Guinness. Uh huh. And I've got The Long Black Veil by The Chieftains on the iPod and… MORE

So I worked in the garden until the rising windstorm caused twigs, then small branches, then one fair-sized tree limb to crash down and take my late winter clean up back to zero. Fine. Score one for Mother Nature. But my battle with the elements made me all the more hungry for a different sort… MORE

To be a gardener in Seattle is to bundle up against the cold and the wet and work between the raindrops. Waiting for good weather is for the weak. So when today's downpour lightened up to merely a minor storm, I threw on the thermals, climbed into a pair of rubber boots, and zipped up my rain… MORE

I must have missed the memo when January 24 was declared National Soup Swap Day. Actually, this year marked its third anniversary, so I'm really behind the curve on this one. And I'm a girl who loves her soup. In fact, a bowl of soup would be just the thing on a cold, rainy day like today, and… MORE

About Me
Two working adults and a kid in school. Someone has to cook and that someone is usually me. *sigh*
My favorite things to cook
Whatever makes my family smile while they're eating.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I cook, they clean up after me. It's the kind of tradition I can fully embrace.
My cooking triumphs
No one has asked me to stop yet.
My cooking tragedies
When I was 13, I made pecan rolls for my family. The recipe called for 8 refrigerator biscuits but the package held 10. My mom asked me what I did with the other 2. Judging from the look on her face, "I threw them away" wasn't the right answer.
