When a new kitchen toy calls my name, I struggle with barriers against buying everything in sight: money (doesn’t grow on trees) and storage space (not much). So things have to work hard to earn my love. Take these kitchen shears. Better yet, get your own.I reach for these industrial strength… MORE

So I’m watching the latest episode of Wild Kingdom out my kitchen window and a squirrel scampers by holding an apple in its mouth. The squirrel leaps into my herb bed, digs a hole and buries the apple. Then it digs another hole, extracts a different apple—this one has bite marks all over it—and… MORE

I had a wok-free kitchen until a couple of years ago. If you just snorted in disbelief, I don’t blame you. What’s worse is I’m mostly Asian. I know. Let’s move on.If you’re a true believer and already rock the wok, you won’t be surprised to hear that it’s become one of my kitchen essentials.… MORE

Bread pudding: Resistance is futile.   When I was a kid, weekend breakfast with my family was a big deal. Two working parents and five kids in school made for a hectic week, so the only time we could share air space was Saturday or Sunday. And Mom made sure we showed up or else.… MORE

About Me
Two working adults and a kid in school. Someone has to cook and that someone is usually me. *sigh*
My favorite things to cook
Whatever makes my family smile while they're eating.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I cook, they clean up after me. It's the kind of tradition I can fully embrace.
My cooking triumphs
No one has asked me to stop yet.
My cooking tragedies
When I was 13, I made pecan rolls for my family. The recipe called for 8 refrigerator biscuits but the package held 10. My mom asked me what I did with the other 2. Judging from the look on her face, "I threw them away" wasn't the right answer.
