Perfect Pumpkin Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2014
Great pie if you like sweet pumpkin pies. I prefer savoury pumpkin pies and this one was way too sweet for me. I would not make again

Classic CRISCO® Pie Crust

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2014
This has been my go-to pie crust recipe since I started baking as a teenager. A few tweeks my mom taught me and its perfect. I use ice water and add 2 tbsp vinegar to it. I start with 3 tbsp water, tossing it ever so lightly and add 2 more. The trick is to toss as lightly and as little as possible. These are not a waste of ingredients, you just need practice.

Downeast Maine Pumpkin Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2014
I made the recipe exactly as written and found it to be great flavour but too greasy (left a slice on the kitchen counter overnight and it was still moist the next day) and a little too sweet. I will definitely make again but halve the oil and use 2 cups sugar instead, as many others have suggested. I did also add a dash of vanilla extract to it.

Caesar Salad I

Reviewed: Sep. 14, 2014
I gave it a 2 star previously because it was runny and then went to my dad to ask him how to make a proper salad (he worked as a waiter in a fine dining restaurant for many years making table-side Caesar salad). The ingredients were the same but you MUST use a wooden bowl and you MUST slowly drizzle the oil in while vigorously whisking. This is how you get the creamy texture of a Caesar dressing. The egg also doesn't need to be warmed. He also said not to use extra virgin olive oil as it affects the flavour, maybe half EVOO and half canola. He also only juiced a quarter lemon not a full. I watched as he made it and it made all the difference. Hope this helps with all the people having problems with it.

Spicy Refrigerator Dill Pickles

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2014
This recipe is SO good and SO easy to make. I cut the sugar in half as others suggested but otherwise made it exactly as written. I am not a fan of sour foods so I found it too tart but my husband who loves sour thought they were perfect. Definitely a keeper!

Zucchini Patties

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2014
Great recipe if you've been over-run by your garden zucchinis. I made some adjustments based on reviews and used less flour & added bread crumbs. I also added a little garlic powder, parsley, and basil for flavour. Most importantly I put the shaved zucchiini in a colander, added salt and let it drain for about 10 mins, this is a must.

Vietnamese Fresh Spring Rolls

Reviewed: Apr. 21, 2014
I made this recipe for a large party and it was a hit. I did make adjustments though, I left out the mint and had no basil so it was just cilantro for herbs. I also added carrots and cucumber. I made the fish sauce and thought it was great (I haven't had these before so I don't know whats "right". I liked the fish sauce with the rolls. I also followed the other peanut sauce...2 parts hoisin to 1 part PB and I added some lime juice and garlic chili sauce to it. Will definitely make these again

Sweet Chili Thai Sauce

Reviewed: Apr. 21, 2014
Typically I make the adjustments on a recipe if the same comment appears often but this time I was in a rush and I forgot to halve the sugar...and I'm glad I didn't. I made this recipe exactly as written and I thought it was just right. I did have to almost double the corn starch though. Would make again

Grandma Jeanette's Amazing German Red Cabbage

Reviewed: Mar. 1, 2014
Depending on your level of vinegar tolerance you may need to play with vinegar/water ratio. For reference, My German husband who loves it when his mouth puckers from vinegar gave this a 6 star rating. I am not a big fan of vinegar and I still thought it was good but would def add more water and less vinegar next time. A few ppl mentioned their food was burning, I had to start adding water every 15 mins or so at about 1 hour to keep it from burning. I would recommend checking your pot at the hour mark and add a little water if it looks like its burning and do this every 15 mins or so until it is ready

Doggie Birthday Cake

Reviewed: Jan. 30, 2014
I made this for my furbaby's 3rd bday and she absolutely loved it. It gets 5 stars because my mom even loved it, so much so that she wrote the recipe down to make for herself (with a little tweaking) LOL. I personally didn't think it tasted that good for human consumption but my mom sure did. I added the honey and also added a cup of shredded apple to the recipe.

Denise's Peanut Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 20, 2014
I found this recipe too soupy and bland. I also found it incredibly salty but that could be because I used stock instead of broth. Regardless, I wouldn't make it again

Hot Artichoke and Spinach Dip II

Reviewed: Jan. 12, 2014
This dip is FABULOUS!!! I made it for a dinner party I was hosting and the guests couldn't stop raving about it. Its truly an awesome dip and definitely an appetizer staple from now on. I followed the advice of others and used sour cream instead of mayo, put the mozzarella in the mixture instead of on top, and doubled the garlic. The best part....because its a cream cheese base I used the cold leftovers as a bagel spread the next morning and it was just as fabulous!

Baked Honey Mustard Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2014
I didn't measure out any of the ingredients so my rating isn't for that. I also used dijon mustard instead of prepared. My 5 star is because I never would have thought to put paprika, parsley and basil in my honey mustard and I'm so glad I did. This is now my go-to honey mustard sauce.

Just came back from Germany and the Christmas markets and we were craving some Gluewien. I also used orange juice instead of the water and added 2 more cinnamon sticks. It was exactly like the Gluewein in Germany this way
