About this Cook
I'm the mother of a family blend of four grown children, with nine grandchildren.
My favorite things to cook
Baking bread, baking brownies, baking cake, baking....
My favorite family cooking traditions
We're an average Midwest family- we enjoy a variety of typical farm food, a little Asian, a little Tex-Mex, a little of this, a little of that. We dabble in variety, but come back to our Midwestern roots for favorites.
My cooking triumphs
Putting food on the table, snacks in the cupboard and drinks in the fridge is a triumph all its own. A lifetime of effort to keep the family well-fed and happy.
My cooking tragedies
No real tragedies; I love to try new recipes and not all recipes please every person. No flames, mo charred pans...yet.

Microwave Spiced Nuts
Yummy! I quartered this recipe, as I just needed a few spiced nuts to add to a salad. I microwaved them in 30-second increments for 2.5 minutes. Easy and good. I'll add more of each of the spices next time.

Cranberry Apple Breakfast Muffins
As written, the batter was too dry. Adding 1/2 cup of applesauce will make it 4-star recipe. The batter will still be very dense. Next time I'll reduce the brown sugar to compensate for the sweetness of the applesauce that I'll continue to add.

Cinnamon Rolls II
I made a half-recipe in my bread machine, and it fit perfectly. The dough was silky and easy to work with. I made these on a humid day and added about a half cup of flour to get the texture I wanted. I used both the raisins (softened in hot water and drained) and the nuts in the filling, and drizzled a tsp of honey over the filling before rolling it. This made twelve small rolls, with excellent taste and texture. I was disappointed with the size, thus the four stars, but these are really the size we need even though I love big, fluffy cinnamon rolls.
