About this Cook
I grew up in small town BC, Canada, moved to a bigger city for a few years and now I'm back. Getting used to the lack of foreign foods is a little annoying, but I'm getting used to being creative.
My favorite things to cook
I love deserts. Curries and stirfrys never fail, and breads like buns and biscuits are always better baked at home.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Mennonite cooking. Cottage cheese wareniky, kielke, sausage, all things my mom would cook for us.
My cooking triumphs
Finaly learning how to turn the crepe pan so that the batter spread evenly. I didn't have much patience to learn that one. I once had a sourdough starter that lasted for a month before going bad. I made really good sourdough pretzels.
My cooking tragedies
All of the cakes that I didn't use enough icing on. The muffins that had too much oatmeal in them. The crepes that had no egg. The charcoal masquerading as a grilled cheese sandwich.

Classic Fish and Chips
This batter gives a thick, crunchy coating. I used sunflower oil and kept the temperature at 340-360 degrees. The fish I bought were rather thin, so next time I'll use thicker filets to balance this awesome batter.

Chocolate Cake II
Very easy to put together. It's hard to say if my favourite part is the taste or not having a stack of dirty dishes after making this! Use high quality cocoa powder and vanilla, and make sure your baking soda is still active! Do not skimp on the liquids, but sugar can be varied according to taste.
