Marinated Beet Salad

Reviewed: May 3, 2003
Easy, great reviews and pretty too. Easy enough for a family dinner and special enough for company. It's a keeper. Sliced canned beets were all I had on hand & worked well chopped.

Turkey Dumplings

Reviewed: Jun. 27, 2003
My husband said this was good and had a nice flavor, 4/5 stars. I cut it in half for an easy and quick supper for those nights when you need one. It went great with Carrots Augratin, available on this site. My son was expecting carrots, celery, in the turkey/gravy along with "home-made" drop-type dumplings like he's had before. Thanks Joan!

Tuna Macaroni Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 27, 2003
My husband and son loved this. I did this on the fly, without marinating and it came out great. He's a big fan of macoroni salad and he loved the lighter dressing! I added 2 cans tuna, green olives, sweet Vidalia onions (from Georgia) and Miracle Whip type salad dressing, because I didn't have any Mayo. You can play with the recipe and it still comes out great!

Cheddar Quiche

Reviewed: Jun. 27, 2003
This was fun and quick to make... It's lighter than other quiches with only four eggs. My son & husband weren't sure if "real men eat quiche, but they liked this one. To save time I used dehydrated onion, omitted the salt (not needed), increased the hot sauce four fold (we like it mellow with a hint of warmth) and of course a pre-made pie shell. This filling could make two pans if you're not careful. I suggest a deep-dish and add the evaporated milk until it's "full". I've made this a few times - once throwing in a few chopped jalopenos I had on hand and everyone raved about it. They're spoiled now - and look for the peppers each time!

Cereal Treats II

Reviewed: Jun. 27, 2003
This was very easy and not sticky. It spread easily and cut/served after 30-45 minutes. The kids said they were a lot better than the school's marshmallow treats.

Rice Mess

Reviewed: Jun. 27, 2003
This is the quickest meal I make - and my husband does not get tired of it. The cheese makes it taste special - so even though you're tempted, don't leave it off!

Orange Gelatin Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 27, 2003
This is home food for me - my mom used to make a similar dish every summer for us growing up. I don't know how many reunions she took this to. She used a blender to give the cottage cheese a smoother texture. I love this although my son prefers his jello just "plain please"...

Easy Venison Stew

Reviewed: Jun. 27, 2003
This is my standard "crock-pot" supper. Any meat will do - just allow enough time to let it stew all day. It's great.

Corned Beef and Cabbage I

Reviewed: Jun. 27, 2003
This is the traditional recipe - but like the other reviews said, the 10/5 was just right. Thanks Laria!

Garlic and Ham Spaghetti

Reviewed: Jun. 27, 2003
My husband the pasta fiend loved this! Next time I'll use a small onion since the larger onion tended to overpower the recipe. I used sliced black olives and 12 oz. leftover ham chunks. Also, next time I'll slice everything first before starting step 2. (since the mushrooms took a while, I ended having to take the mixture off the stove while I finished slicing).

Bubble 'n' Squeak

Reviewed: Jun. 27, 2003
This was 5/5 with an exclamation point - the guys loved it. When I make it again, I'll do a smaller onion. They loved the name, but there is a reason it is called this! It may be one of those weekend dishes. LOL

Aussie Chicken

Reviewed: Jun. 27, 2003
My husband told me "you can make this anytime" - and it's a good company dish. The sauce can be cut in half or omitted altogether. The 2 cups cheese makes it very cheesy, and could be reduced to 1 cup. Thanks Rebecca!

Ukrainian Meat Filled Cabbage Rolls

Reviewed: Jun. 27, 2003
These were great! I grew up in an Ethnic area of upstate and NY and this taste is authentic! These disappeared in no time - so I'll probably double it in the future. They were a little salty - so I'll cut the salt back too. My picky son doesn't like sour cream - and they were great without the sauce... They didn't need it. I really enjoyed these, thanks for the taste of "home food" Olga!

This is a great dish for company - I've made it for my in-laws and for a church supper, with rave reviews! I used pre-cooked bacon & Salad type precooked bacon bits with good results. Thanks Jennifer!

Carrots Au Gratin

Reviewed: Jun. 27, 2003
This is at the top of our list of family favorites from this site - and we have several. I've scaled it to 6 servings, used sliced fresh baby carrots and enjoyed the positive responses. I've been asked for the recipe - and my husband looks forward to seeing this one on the menu!

Mexican Lasagna

Reviewed: Jun. 27, 2003
This is a great family recipe. This is one of my teen-age son's favorites. It's easy enough for him to make... I didn't have a packet of taco seasoning, & instead used one small chopped onion, 2 T Chili powder, 1 t Salt, 1/2 t Cumin and 1/2 tsp chopped garlic. Enjoy! Thanks Alyce.
