About this Cook
Married for 30+ years. One son, 25, in college and at home. Registered nurse working 50+ hours outside the home. I like to cook when I have time to enjoy it.
My favorite things to cook
All things gluten free...
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom was a great cook - she did it all. She made yogurt, baked bread, and had a garden and canned everything that came out of our garden. Christmas holidays were awesome with 35 people gathered around the table. Everyone knew her for her pie crusts, cakes and cookies...but I hardly have any of my mom's favorite recipes - so I've used the Allrecipes site to locate those recipes that I loved growing up - summer salads, holiday dishes, kolaches, goulash, stuffed grape leaves, oxtail soup, and oyster stew.
My cooking triumphs
Since 2000 when I joined Allrecipes, I've had a lot of triumphs... Since going Gluten Free, I'm learning how to make any recipe GF - which is kind of neat! My recent GF successes: Spicy Chicken Rice Soup, Creamy Chicken and Wild Rice Soup Recipe, Alyson's Broccoli Salad Recipe, Salmon Chowder, Rice, Black Bean & Feta Salad, Pork Chop and Feta Skillet!
My cooking tragedies
Since I experiment a lot, I also get in trouble. The worst was when I burned the rice in the microwave, and ended up having to put the smoking pot outside my kitchen door!

Pumpkin Turkey Chili
Our family loves chili and I made this for my family. They don't deal well with change, so hubby liked it. My adult son loved it. It was slightly sweet with just a bit of heat. Wonderful!

Kitchen Sink Soup
I have made this several times over the last few months and my family loves it every time. I follow this as an outline, and substitute as needed depending on what i have in the frig. This comes out wonderful every time... Thanks for sharing this recipe!

Stuffed Portobello Mushrooms
We omitted the sausage and made it a vegetarian dish. We also used fresh cherry tomatoes sliced in half and then served this on a toasted deli baked onion roll.
