You blinked, didn’t you ? And before you knew it, it was September 1. Labor Day is this weekend and all the summer romances are coming to end. What leaves that were left on the trees in New England after Irene got done blowing through will start to turn and corn mazes of different shapes &… MORE

I have a six burner stove top in the center island of our kitchen. When we had the kitchen completely redone in the summer of 2008, it was one of the things that my wife & I both agreed on immediately. Four burners had never been enough because we always seemed to have more & more going on… MORE

As those of you who are early morning visitors to The Buzz know, I like to check the National Food Holiday Calendar on a fairly regular basis and then make sure that everyone knows what food to celebrate. I’ll even add a link to a somewhat related recipe and add a pithy comment that is… MORE

I only have time to write up a quick update today on The DIE-t I love to hate because to be honest, I have really been busy at that other 4 letter word we all love to hate – work – and since they pay the bills (somewhat) I kind of have to give them priority over the somewhat mindless missives… MORE

Once again I find myself at 35,000 feet wending my way across the not so friendly skies of but this time I don’t mind as much as I normally do. That is probably because this time I am headed for a city that I have had a not so secret love affair with for over 20 years. A city that captures my… MORE

One day, most likely while I was bored at the paycheck factory, I stumbled across a calendar of National Food Holidays and I was awestruck by the number of different foods that are celebrated not only on a daily basis but also on a weekly & monthly basis too. From oddities such as National… MORE

Once again I took one for the team, especially since The Real Housewives of New Jersey Season 3 Premiere was last night, and once again I watched Dancing with the Never Were & Wannabe Stars for you so you didn’t have to. We had not one, not two but 3 dances for each couple and in a twist… MORE

Three weeks ago on the advice, no let’s be more accurate, the DIRECT ORDER of my cantankerous & curmudgeonly doctor I went on a diet. So I thought it was time to check in with an update on the 10 Reasons Why I Hate My Diet. 1 – I hate my diet because it has the letters “D – I – E” in… MORE

Once again I bit the bullet and watched the glittery cheese fest that is known as Dancing with the Stars so you didn’t have to and unlike other weeks, I am actually sitting in a hotel room on a business trip trying to beat the results show to the starting line. So if this week seems a little… MORE

This week on Dancing With The Stars it was “Ballroom Greats” night. If that isn’t a showstopper, I don’t know what is. I didn’t bother taking down the names of the three “ballroom greats” that worked with our six remaining couples because at the end of the night, it didn’t matter. The only… MORE

About Me
My mother decided early on that her sons would never have to rely on someone to feed them so we all learned to cook at an early age. I really started to branch out when I moved out west to Denver, SF & Dallas. Combine that with extended business travel to Louisiana & my growing love of spices and you get a real mix of flavors.
My favorite things to cook
Love to make cajun food with my favorites being crawfish pie, alligator stew & alligator chili - I go nuts on Super Bowl Sunday
My favorite family cooking traditions
We didn't have a lot of traditions per se but you could count on pancakes or waffles on sundays - dad making scrambled eggs twice a year on christmas morning & mother's day - veal parmagiana on christmas eve, Thanksgiving with Grandma Matthews and any menu of your choice on your birthday. We weren't a spicy family so I learned a lot of good strong basics in the kitchen from Mom that I have carried over into my cooking today.
My cooking triumphs
I love to experiment with variations of dishes I try around the country. My biggest success is here on allrecipes where I had 2 recipes published in the same cookbook - Southwestern Turkey Soup & Curried Carrot Soup. I think my corn muffins are a great starting point and my alligator chili has become a much requested Super Bowl favorite.
My cooking tragedies
There have been a few times in the past where I tossed everything and took everyone to a restaurant instead. I'm not too proud to say my cooking is awful when it really is.
