Simple is delicious. Simple is profound. Simple is easy? Not for me! I have the unusual penchant for making simple things more difficult. It is a curse. It is also a blessing. Yes, it is true that I can't simply have a nice cup of coffee at home. I have to roast the beans myself. I assure… MORE

When I was a young man, I saw no need to keep my room clean or tidy. As long as there was a clear path to the door leading to the rest of the house from my bed, and a path from the bed to the closet, I was happy. I knew pretty much where everything I needed was, and a quick sniff would reveal… MORE

After 20 some hours in brine, I pan fried the last two chops. Over a medium heat this time, I added a couple tablespoons of olive oil to the hot pan and put in the room temperature, patted dry chops. After about seven minutes I flipped them and then covered the pan in foil. Another seven… MORE

We feasted tonight. I try to make a good dinner most nights, except when Papa John sneaks into the house. Digression: I am going to build that wood fired oven in the back yard someday. Then we'll see if Papa sulks around my domicile! So I don't always make a decent meal. Who does?  Some… MORE

I've had an interest in cooking and baking as long as I can remember. Some of my earliest memories are of watching my mom bake bread and dinner rolls. I also remember her scratch made chocolate cakes with chocolate frosting. Imagine frosting that doesn't come out of a can! Scratch made… MORE

It wasn't my normal frenzy of five recipes this weekend. I can't keep doing that to my health! Sometimes you just have to yield to common sense (not my strong suit) and reign in your silly self! I only managed to make one recipe this weekend, but my youngest daughter joined me and made one… MORE

I am so proud of both of my girls. They are doing well in school and extracurricular activities. They are polite to everyone, but not push overs. My youngest has even been offered a job at the local health club helping with swimming instruction. She would aid the main instructor. How cool is… MORE

The following is a post from another blog I used to write before I started writing posts here on AR.  It is a test, more or less, to see if I can get stupid photos to stay in line. It seems to be working. When we agreed to provide a car to Eldest, I thought that school year mornings would… MORE

I just wanted to show off my garden like King Sparta and FarmChef! Trouble is, I'm not really going to put in a garden this year. So I'm going to cheat and post last year's photos. I just wish I could get them to inline instead of at the bottom of the blog. I have another blog, which I am not… MORE

First off, let me tell you how much I despise being called Mr. Mom. I have heard that term applied to me repeatedly by people who honestly thought they were being witty. Fie! A pox on them and their spawn! So much for suffering in dignified silence. If you are one of those people who referred… MORE

About Me
I'm old and smelly, kinda like a really good salami with that really nice white mould all over it.
My favorite things to cook
Meat, carbs, meat, carbs, meat, carbs and did I mention meat?
My favorite family cooking traditions
Drop a plate of Pierogis and sausages in front of me and watch my eyes glaze over in pure joy.
My cooking triumphs
Schweinebraten mit Knoedel und Krautsalat. Also Edel Hirsch Gulasch was very nice. I make killer Spaetzle and Knockerl also.
My cooking tragedies
There aren't enough electrons in cyberspace! :) Actually, the tragedies usually involve well intentioned creativity out of control.
