What can I say, I love food. It's just hubby and me, but I still do a lot of cooking just for the two of us. We eat a variety of different foods that are all over the spectrum. Most of the time we eat healthy, but still make room for those not-so-healthy dishes.

Meals that are bursting with different flavors, textures, and color.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mother was Czech and it wouldn't be X-mas without her famous poppy seed kolaches. That torch has now passed to me since I have her well-guarded recipe.
My cooking triumphs
After many, many years of trials and tribulations, I finally mastered the art of chocolate. I make my very own candy shop style truffles, English toffee, caramels, etc. Maybe someday I will make a business out of it, but for now you have to be on my X-mas list.
My cooking tragedies
I’m quite certain I’ve had my share of tragedies if you consider a cake that falls, breads that won’t raise, candy that won’t set, or a burnt burger on the grill. Hey, it happens!

Screaming Martini Scallops
I love scallops, but can’t say that I’ve ever loved any particular way they’ve been cook. At least not enough to get excited about making them twice the same way. Well, that's all changed! I’ve fallen in love with this recipe, have made it several times, and have no desire to search for another scallop recipe. The rich butter sauce compliments the scallop’s flavor and doesn’t try to cover it up like many bread crumb coated recipes. The best part is, it’s easy to make. I'm not one to stock fancy flavored cooking oils, so I start with plain olive oil and saute it with a clove of minced garlic before adding the scallops. For a beautiful golden brown color, you really need to get the scallops good and dry by patting them with a paper towel. I leave out the red pepper flakes, but will sprinkle a few over the top of hubby’s since he enjoys a little spice. When you’re done, you will feel like a gourmet chef.

French Toast Stars
I could eat French toast every day, but I often get tired of the same old boring egg and milk batter. When I saw this recipe, I had to give it a try. Hands down, this is one of the best, company worthy recipes I’ve had in a long time. Loved the honey, cinnamon, orange combo. I did not want to waste, so I used the entire piece of bread and cut the stars out after it was cooked. I didn’t mind eating the scraps while I saved the stars for the photo op. Stars aside, I will be making this one often!

American Flag Cake
This cake is absolutely stunning. It takes a lot of time and requires patience, but well worth the effort. I used white chocolate frosting between the layers and butter cream frosting for the sides and top. My rating is for the creative idea, NOT the cake recipe. The cake part of the recipe will leave you scratching your head and a notepad full of scribbles trying to figure out how to adjust. First, I could not find a 10.25 oz cake mix which left me wondering if there was a error when this got published. So, I watched the video and it couldn’t be more vague. It skips over the recipe only saying to use 3 boxes of cake mix and follow the directions on the back of the box. Easy enough, but that’s not the written recipe because the written version clearly modifies the box instructions. My advice is to use your favorite white cake recipe or mix and make 2-8" red cakes, 1 blue, and 1 white and use this recipe for the assembly instructions.
