Osgood Pie

Reviewed: Dec. 10, 2014
My husband nor I cared much for this pie. Don't think it had anything to do with the recipe though. I really wanted to like it since it's an old pie that early Americans used. It's so cloyingly sweet that neither of us could even finish one slice. Will not make it or any of the alternate osgood pie recipes again.

Baked Sweet Potatoes

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2014
Really enjoyed these potatoes. I did decide the seasoning sounded a bit bland for my family and bumped them up a bit and for that reason am only giving it a 4 star. I added some basil and rosemary and a bit extra salt and pepper.

Favorite Old Fashioned Gingerbread

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2014
Didn't care for the strong flavor of the molasses. It also had a slightly scorched taste on the crust even though it was just done in the center. Think maybe it has too much molasses for my family.

Chef John's Smothered Pork Chops

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2014
Was disappointed in this recipe. I followed the recipe exactly and am an experienced cook, but the sauce turned out very thin and the pork chops were bland.

Cocktail Meatballs

Reviewed: Sep. 25, 2014
Made these by the recipe with one exception, I added a half teaspoon of salt to the meatballs before baking. They were still a bit bland for me. Sauce flavor is interesting but not one that I will repeat at our house. My husband's comment was "I'll bet these meatballs would be great with barbeque sause.

Spicy Salsa

Reviewed: Jan. 7, 2014
In Texas we call this pico de gallo and will eat it on pretty much anything. Never have seen it with celery, but figure a little crunch is always good. You can always adjust the heat by adding/subtracting the amount of peppers and removing the seeds.

Bacon Crackers

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2014
Took these to a church function and they disappeared so fast I was shocked. One guy said they're like bacon candy. I made a couple of adjustments the second time I made them. Only put a small piece of bacon on each cracker (just enough to cover the cracker) and did half with parmesan cheese and half with brown sugar. We loved both flavors. Thanks for an excellent recipe.

Sausage Egg Casserole

Reviewed: Jun. 1, 2013
Wow!! excellent recipe. I took it to a ladies' brunch at church and it was devoured. I used the whole pound of sausage and misread the recipe, so only used one can of chile peppers. Other than those 2 small changes, I followed the recipe as written. Will definitely use it again and have already had some of the ladies ask for the recipe.

Hamburger Buns

Reviewed: Apr. 3, 2012
I have not tried this recipe yet, but am curious why all the reviews address warming the milk and water. The recipe clearly instructs you to use warm milk (110 degrees) and warm water. It also says to mix the first 5 ingredients and let stand for 5 minutes which is plenty of time to proof the yeast.

Mouse's Macaroni and Cheese

Good basic mac and cheese recipe, but I didn't like the mustard flavor. Will leave that out next time.

Double Tomato Bruschetta

Reviewed: Aug. 10, 2011
This is an excellent recipe. Will definitely used it again. I will probably cut down on the garlic next time as we don't like a strong garlic flavor. I followed another reviewer's suggestion and used it as a dip instead of putting it all together and melting the cheese.

Lime Chicken Soft Tacos

Reviewed: Jul. 10, 2011
Was a little disappointed that this didn't have more lime flavor. I think it needs more lime juiceand maybe a bit more red wine vinegar if I make it again.

Fried Rice

Reviewed: Jul. 10, 2011
Tasty base reicpe for fried rice. I didn't have any teriyaki sauce so substituted soy sauce. Had some leftover pork roast that needed to be used so diced it and added while browning the onions. Also added some diced garlic instead of garlic powder. Will most likely use this recipe again when I have leftover rice.

Sweet Baby Carrots

Reviewed: Feb. 19, 2011
Will use this one again with a couple of modifications. We don't need extra sauce to dip bread in so just made half as much sauce as called for and used the 1 lb package of baby carrots. It was plenty. It was a tad sweet so will decrease the honey and brown sugar a bit next time. Also steamed the carrots instead of cooking in water. The flavor and texture were fantastic.

I've always loved asparagus, but have never been able to get my husband to eat it. He loved this and went back for seconds. Will definitely be using this one again.

The Best Chicken Fried Steak

Reviewed: Feb. 19, 2011
Great recipe. I've always had a problem with the crust coming off the steak during the frying, but didn't happen with this one and the crust is so nice and light. I used sirloin steak and pounded it to 1/4 inch. It was so tender you could have cut it with a fork. Think this crust method would work great with chicken or pork as well.

Homemade Focaccia Bread

I wasn't crazy about this recipe. It was a bit flat tasting and I didn't care for the texture. Probably won't try it again.

A real keeper. I've made this several times and it always gets eaten quickly. Only change I make is to add a little extra butter to the filling.
