Strawberry Mojitos
About this Cook
I'm married and have two kids 21 and 23. I work at my cousin Steve's coffee shop (Mocha Moment), which is good because I love my lattes every day. I love to cook for my family. They will eat anything except my kids don't like leftovers. I walk everyday and my husband and kids are runners. I suppose we exercise so we can eat. Food is very important to my family. Cooking is one way I show my love to my family and friends.
My favorite things to cook
I love to try new recipes. I look at cookbooks and on line recipes as a hobby. I have my own blog (http://dawns-recipes.blogspot.com) that I keep all our favorite recipes. A recipe makes it in the blog only if all my family likes it. My husband and kids aren't picky so I can try just about anything.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I usually do all the cooking and baking but come christmas time my daughter loves to help bake and decorate gingerbreadmen. My husband likes to do the cooking on Sundays which is usually something on the grill or pizza. It's nice to cook but it's also nice to have someone cook for you.
My cooking triumphs
At family gatherings like birthday parties and such I like entertaining. I always pull out my favorite recipes and everyone always leaves happy. My mother in law said once, "I'll be thinking about this meal tomorrow!" When they ask for the recipes it's always a compliment. When I had my daughter's high school graduation party, with my parents help, we served 130 friends and family. Everything turned out great. One of my daughters friends asked who catered the party because she wanted to get the cater for her party. Now that's a triumph!
My cooking tragedies
Once I made a pound cake for a benefit and I under cooked it so it fell. I tried again and that cake looked perfect except when I flipped it to remove it from the pan it stuck and only half came out. I gave up and just donated money to the cause. There was also the time I made jambalaya and I over cooked the shrimp, not good, they were like rubber. There has been a few times that a meal hasn't turned out and we ordered a pizza. Most of the time it's edible but someone will say, "don't make that again!" I'll keep trying new recipes because it's worth it when I come across a keeper. My family doesn't seem to mind when I mess up because they like pizza too!

Summer Beer I
Oh my! This is one great drink but be careful, as they pack a punch! I only used 8 oz of vodka and it was enough! For the beer I used Leinenkugel's Summer Shandy (which already has a lemon flavor) and Citron Vodka. It's a keeper!

Shrimp Ramakis
We really liked these shrimp ramakis. I was making the recipe for two so I just scaled the recipe down with no problem. Very easy recipe. I used sliced water chestnuts instead of whole. Served on rice pilaf and roasted asparagus. Made for a really good dinner.
